The Opportunity


Ambipar is seeking a Landfill Equipment Operator to support landfill operations while maintaining safety, compliance, and efficiency at the site.


Locations: Calgary, Red Deer, Youngstown, or Drumheller, AB



Key Responsibilities


Operational Leadership



  • Supervise daily tipping face operations, including waste acceptance, traffic flow, safety procedures, and staffing assignments

  • Act as on-site contact for operational concerns and escalate issues when required

  • Monitor incoming loads for compliance with site acceptance criteria

  • Ensure proper placement, compaction, and cover of waste


Heavy Equipment Operation



  • Operate heavy equipment (e.g., loader, landfill compactor)

  • Perform daily equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance or repairs

  • Maintain safe and efficient equipment operation


Compliance & Safety



  • Enforce site safety protocols and regulatory requirements

  • Participate in safety meetings and provide on-site coaching

  • Monitor environmental controls (dust, litter, erosion, leachate, noise)

  • Maintain inspection and compliance records


Waste Screening & Diversion



  • Identify prohibited, hazardous, or divertible materials

  • Support diversion programs (metal, wood, drywall, organics, recyclables)

  • Track contamination and diversion performance

  • Communicate with customers and haulers regarding compliance


Administrative Support



  • Maintain daily logs and inspection checklists

  • Complete incident reports

  • Support audits and compliance documentation



Required Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years of heavy equipment experience in landfill or construction environments

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

  • Knowledge of waste handling, recycling, and environmental regulations

  • Strong communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding environment

  • Basic computer skills (digital logs, tracking systems)

  • Ability to wear required PPE at all times


Preferred:



  • Landfill Operator Certificate of Qualification (SWANA), or willingness to obtain

  • Additional heavy equipment or supervisory certifications
