Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.


 


Pensionable Salary Enhancement - Nurses in eligible classifications may be eligible to earn an additional $5.95/hour when working full-time hours within a prescribed six-month reporting period. (Effective April 1, 2025 – March 31st 2027.)


 


Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing services for patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. These services include independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, a leadership role within the health care team, and facilitating coordination of patient care.


The LPN works to full scope of practice, engages in ongoing education and maintains competency with Professional Standards of Practice, College of Licensed Practical Nurse of Manitoba Code of Ethics, Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses in Manitoba and the Regulated Health Professions Act.


The LPN demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the facility/program.


Experience



  • Satisfactory employment record.

  • Applicants without previous operating room training/experience must successfully complete the AORN Periop 101 online course.*


*Shared Health and the WRHA Surgery Program offer basic operating room education/orientation through the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Periop 101 Didactic course to successful applicants with no previous perioperative experience. This is an online, evidence-based, accredited course for new operating room nurses to learn the basic, core principles of practice. The successful candidate may be required to purchase the required textbook and reading material for this orientation course. Successful completion of the course is a requirement within the new hire probation period. (This can be up to three months for a full-time new employee).


Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)



  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program.

  • Post-basic education in perioperative nursing preferred.


Certification/Licensure/Registration



  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the Current active registration with the College of License Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).

  • Current Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate required.


Qualifications and Skills



  • Knowledge of:

    • College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.

    • College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses.

    • Scope of practice as documented in the Licensed Practical Nurses Act.

    • Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

    • Nursing care knowledge related to the clinical area.

    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.

    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.

    • Principles of delegation.



  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative interdisciplinary environment that supports quality services, quality improvement and staff empowerment.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking/problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.

  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.

  • Ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.

  • Proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as Windows and Word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
