Status: Regular Full Time

Education Level: Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus a related two-year college diploma, and either 8,000 hours of apprenticeship or Red Seal certification. 


Base Location: Niagara, ON


Shift: Days


Travel: 10%

JOB OVERVIEW


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Millwright / Machinist at our Maintenance /Repair Machine Shop located at the Sir Adam Beck Generating Station in Niagara Falls, ON


 


Reporting to the Machine Shop Mechanical Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing precision machining, including in-situ machining, and mechanical maintenance activities such as equipment troubleshooting, repair, and fabrication to support safe and reliable plant operations.


 


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 



  • Utilize Boring Mill, Mill, Lathe, Vertical Lathe, Radial Arm Drill, Surface Grinder, Line Boring Machine and CNC Mill and Lathes to fabricate and manufacture parts and equipment such as; pins, bushings, shafts, wheels, guide and thrust bearings.

  • Prepare mechanical and civil design sketches, drawings, and bills of material.



  • Support project teams during unit refurbishment and major maintenance activities, including custom machining and fitting.

  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics to execute work accurately and efficiently.

  • Collaborate with weld shop personnel and other trades and groups to deliver integrated repair and fabrication solutions.

  • Perform precision machining activities, including in-situ machining, to support maintenance, repair, and refurbishment work.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment and components to maintain safe and reliable operations.

  • Fabricate, modify, and repair components from engineered drawings or replicate existing parts where drawings are not available.



  • Inspect work performed by outside contractors to ensure product specifications and quality, occasionally offsite.

  • Accountable for the health, safety and wellbeing of self and others, as per established technical/ operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems.


 


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Grade 12 or equivalent, and two year college diploma in a related field of study*.



  • Completion of a Machinist, or Tool and Die, apprenticeship or a minimum of 5 years experience as a Machinist (or similar trade) 

  • Advanced knowledge in Machining skills – precision machining using manual lathes, radial drill presses, mills, grinders, etc. (in-situ machining and/or CNC experience would be an asset.)



  • Experience in using and maintaining precision measuring equipment such as; outside/inside Micrometers, Vernier Calipers, Test Indicators, Height Gauges, etc.

  • Experience in rigging and operating overhead cranes for transporting equipment and materials

  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, with proven troubleshooting, fabrication, and reverse engineering capabilities.

  • Experience in confined space, working near water and working at heights


 


* Relevant field of education includes: Mechanical Engineering Technician/Technologist, Industrial Mechanic Millwright, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
