Position Status:      1 continuing, full-time position. This is an existing vacancy.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Parks Maintenance, the Parks Technician position will provide professional and courteous service in supporting responses to all customer service inquiries, feedback and concerns as well as fostering a strong customer service culture within the team. They will ensure approved parks management operations practices, procedures, and operational standards are consistently followed and have extensive knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in Parks and cemetery operations. The position will have the ability to inspect and approve work completed by crews and/ or contractors. They will provide supervision and hands-on leadership at the field level to deliver approved work plans for parks and cemetery. They will demonstrate commitment to teamwork by encouraging consultation and participation in decision making related to the day-to-day operation of their crew.



Responsibilities:



  • Supervision, hands-on leadership and or participation in work performed by the Parks and Cemetery department crew including summer students.

  • On site support for contractors within approved work plans and monitor hired equipment.

  • Inspect, maintain and repair trails.

  • Playground maintenance and infrastructure/equipment repair and maintenance.

  • Oversee and monitor work completed by parks crews.

  • Make day-to-day decisions relating to work crews which could include: monitoring performance of crew members, equipment and material use.

  • Perform other related administrative tasks and duties as required.

  • Relief for Cemetery Admin. Position.



Qualifications:



  • Must have Grade 12 Diploma or equivalency.

  • Certified Grounds Technician or must get within one year.

  • Three (3) years’ work experience in parks construction, maintenance, landscaping, grounds operations.

  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability combined with two (2) years’ experience in supervision.

  • Experience in cemetery would be considered an asset.

  • Must be willing to obtain Canadian Certified Playground Inspector Certificate.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.

  • Valid Pleasure Craft License is considered an asset.

  • Extensive knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in Parks and cemetery operations and construction.

  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with excellent customer service, organization and communication skills.

  • Must be physically fit and able to lift and carry 50lbs. frequently and occasionally up to 100lbs.

  • Working knowledge of computer packages such as Windows, Microsoft Office.
