WIN House provides individuals and their children fleeing violence with crisis response and intervention, safe temporary accommodation, and support for basic needs. Through trauma-informed, client-centered services, clients are connected to resources, information, advocacy, and community supports that promote safety, stability, and long-term wellbeing. WIN House is committed to operating within a low-barrier, inclusive model of care that supports safe and sustainable exits from violence. 


What You Will Do  


Reporting to the Chief Programs and Operations Officer, the People & Culture Business Partner provides strategic and operational people and culture support across a broad range of functions, including recruitment and selection, onboarding, employee and labour relations, disability management, health and safety, policy development, employee engagement, HR systems, and organizational culture initiatives. The role partners closely with leaders to foster a psychologically safe, high-performing, and values-driven workplace within a complex, unionized, 24/7 environment. 


This opportunity is ideal for an HR professional who is passionate about people, organizational culture, and contributing to meaningful work that supports women and children fleeing violence at WIN House. 


The People & Culture Business Partner regularly demonstrates initiative and proactively undertakes the following key responsibilities:   



  • Supports the development of a psychologically safe, trauma-informed, inclusive, and values-driven workplace culture.  



  • Provides guidance and support to leaders in staff, supervisory, recruitment, labour relations, and health and safety meetings.  



  • Supports performance management processes, including goal setting, performance feedback, career development, succession planning, and competency/KPI development.  



  • Partners with managers on full-cycle recruitment and selection to ensure alignment between organizational needs, role requirements, and candidate fit.  



  • Leads employee onboarding and orientation processes, including ongoing review and enhancement of related programs and resources.  



  • Provides guidance to leaders on employee relations matters, including discipline, conflict resolution, mediation, investigations, and grievance processes.  



  • Communicates and delivers training related to HR policies, procedures, and best practices.  



  • Provides direction and coordination related to payroll and benefits administration, including new hires, transfers, leaves, and employee status changes.  



  • Maintains and updates HR policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with legislation and organizational standards.  



  • Oversees WCB claims, disability management, accommodations, and leave administration.  



  • Maintains accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.  



  • Supports organizational initiatives related to employee engagement, retention, recognition, wellness, workforce sustainability, and culture.  



  • Supports labour relations processes, including interpretation and application of the collective agreement within a unionized environment.  



  • Oversees employee offboarding processes, including exit interviews and transition coordination.  



  • Participates in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives, including policy development and HR systems/process enhancements.  



  • Provides coaching and consultation to leaders related to communication, team effectiveness, employee performance, and conflict management.  



  • Maintains current knowledge of HR trends, legislation, best practices, and emerging workplace issues through continuous learning and professional development. 


Who You Are  


The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Labour Relations, Business Administration, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of progressive experience in a human resources generalist or business partner role. Experience in recruitment and selection, employee and labour relations, occupational health and safety, WCB, disability management, and HR systems is required, preferably within a unionized environment.   


The successful candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of employment legislation, collective agreement interpretation, and HR best practices, with the ability to navigate complex and evolving situations using sound judgment and professionalism. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Teams and SharePoint, as well as HRIS platforms, is required. A commitment to fostering a psychologically safe, inclusive, and values-driven workplace culture is essential. â€‹ 


The Details 


The role will be primarily working out of our Business Office with hours of work from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday to Thursday and 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. on Fridays. This position is primarily office-based, with the possibility of hybrid work or flex time at WIN House’s discretion. Some early mornings, evenings, and weekends may be required. WIN House offers a pet-friendly, team-oriented working environment.  â€¯ 


As a Living Wage Employer, we are committed to fair pay practices that reflect the value of our employees' work. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000 per year combined with a comprehensive extended health benefit package and pension plan.   


Prerequisites 


The successful candidate will be required to submit a Criminal Record Check including a vulnerable sector check, a current Child Welfare check, and must be willing to sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
