Provincial Caregiver Training Facilitator

Role Responsibilities

Help shape the skills and knowledge that support better outcomes for children and youth in care. As a Provincial Caregiver Training Facilitator, you will deliver meaningful, engaging learning experiences to caregivers across Alberta, helping them build the competencies needed to make informed decisions that support the safety, well-being, and permanency of children and youth. Your work will have a lasting impact on caregivers, children, youth, and families across the province.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Caregiver Training Program, this position will deliver provincially mandated caregiver training using adult learning and facilitation principles. The role requires strong communication, presentation, relationship-building, and organizational skills to engage diverse audiences, support learning, and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of caregiver training materials.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

• Deliver engaging, trauma-informed caregiver training: Facilitate provincially mandated training in both in-person and virtual environments, using adult learning principles and a variety of techniques to meet diverse learning styles and participant needs. Provide guidance and support to help caregivers apply their learning to the day-to-day care of children and youth.


• Support caregiver competency and learning development: Assess and provide feedback on caregiver learning and competency development, including facilitated learning sessions and discussion groups, providing individualized guidance, tracking participation and attendance, and supporting caregivers in meeting training requirements.


• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of training programs: Collaborate with Learning and Development consultants, subject matter experts, caregivers, and external partners to develop and update curriculum, facilitator guides, learning resources, and training tools. Ensure content remains current, relevant, culturally appropriate, and aligned with legislation, policy, and child intervention practice.


• Build collaborative relationships and expand training partnerships: Develop and maintain relationships with ministry divisions, Delegated First Nation Agencies, Indigenous communities, Elders, caregivers, and external partners to support accessible and effective caregiver training. Coordinate co-facilitation, engagement of experienced caregiver perspectives, training schedules, and provincial learning opportunities.


• Apply specialized child intervention and cultural knowledge to strengthen caregiver practice: Apply knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practice, caregiver competencies, Indigenous cultures, legislation, policy, and child intervention practices to provide credible and culturally responsive training that supports the safety, well-being, and permanency of children and youth in care.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard: Bachelor of Social Work and 1-year related experience.

Equivalency: Master of Social Work and some related experience; OR related university degree and 3 years related experience; OR related diploma and 4 years related experience; OR related certificate and 5 years related experience.

Preference would be given to candidates with 5+ years of experience.

Assets:

• Extensive knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed care, family systems, separation, loss and grief, and the impacts of abuse and neglect, with the ability to apply this knowledge when supporting caregivers.


• Experience working within the child intervention and caregiver support systems, including knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, practices, programs, and community resources.


• Experience designing, developing, and delivering adult learning programs, with knowledge of adult learning principles, current training methodologies, online learning platforms, and instructional tools.


• Experience coaching, mentoring, facilitating, or assessing caregivers, including the ability to respond appropriately to sensitive or challenging situations and connect participants with appropriate support.


• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple training initiatives, competing priorities, and changing requirements while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.


• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and develop culturally responsive learning approaches, including experience working with Indigenous communities, diverse populations, internal partners, and external stakeholders.

Notes

This role is for 1 full-time up to 1 Year temporary position.

This position currently operates on a varied schedule that includes evening hours and some weekend hours. The schedule is expected to transition in future to a more consistent schedule with increased requirements for regular evening and weekend work, as well as increased travel.

This competition may be used to fill future vacancies, across the Government of Alberta, at the same or lower classification level.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.
