Job Description - Quality Engineer (2 Year FTC)

As part of Bouygues Construction's Public Works division, VSL International participates in the construction of major technical structures and guarantees their structural safety and durability: transport infrastructure (bridges, tunnels), industrial and energy production structures, and commercial buildings.

VSL's business is based on four areas of expertise:

VSL has 4,000 employees at 25 locations worldwide (Asia and Oceania, Middle East, Europe, Latin America, Canada).

Project

Sizewell C is at the heart of the UK’s clean energy revolution. This landmark nuclear power station in Suffolk will provide low-carbon electricity for millions of homes and play a vital role in achieving the UK’s net zero targets. Supported by EDF and the UK Government, Sizewell C is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver sustainable energy infrastructure at scale.

We are responsible for a range of specialist ground engineering works, including deep soil mixing, plastic cut-off walls, embankments, and load transfer platforms — all of which form essential enabling works for the main power station.

Role Overview

The Quality Engineer is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) systems for all geotechnical and piling works on SZC.  The role ensures that construction activities are executed in full compliance with contractual, legal, technical, and company requirements, providing practical assurance that the specified quality standards are achieved.

The QA Engineer works in a team that acts as the project’s quality authority and is the primary liaison with the operations team, third party organisations and client regarding quality matters.

Main Responsibilities

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Identify and implement measures, controls, and procedures to ensure quality standards are met

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Quality Plan and associated documentation systems

  • Establish inspection & test plans (ITPs), quality records, and work procedures for geotechnical and piling activities

  • Ensure effective document control and traceability of all quality documentation

  • Study and interpret legal, contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements applicable to the works

  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and internal procedures

Site & Operational Support

  • Advise operations managers on quality risks and compliance obligations

  • Review and approve method statements; verify correct implementation on site

  • Monitor QC activities performed by site engineers and supervisors

  • Conduct direct inspections and testing where necessary to verify compliance

  • Provide ongoing guidance to engineers, supervisors, and site teams on quality expectations

Defects & Reporting

  • Monitor construction progress from a quality perspective

  • Identify non-conformances and lead corrective and preventive actions

  • Prepare and submit regular QC status reports to project management and client representatives

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (preferred)

  • 3–5 years of experience ideally in heavy civil construction, with geotechnical works

  • Experience managing quality systems on infrastructure or major projects

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of foundation construction methods and associated inspection/testing procedures

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems preferred

  • Experience with documentation, reporting, and compliance processes

Personal Attributes

  • Self-motivated, detail-focused, and capable of working independently

  • Excellent communicator; able to liaise with site teams, operations, and clients

  • Collaborative team player, adaptable in a fast-paced environment

  • Proactive problem-solver, able to identify and mitigate quality risks
