Reporting directly to the Quality Manager, this role is responsible for supporting and advancing the objectives of the Quality Department through active participation in quality system development, continuous improvement initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration. The position requires a solutions-focused quality professional who demonstrates strong ownership, accountability, and sound judgment in addressing challenges, while contributing expertise, driving compliance with established standards, and strengthening overall departmental performance through teamwork and continuous learning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Quality Engineer, Automotive, are detailed below, but not limited to the following:
Lead the launch and transfer of new products to production through the APQP process and prepare Production Part Approvals (PPAPs) for new and existing products.
Develop, update, and maintain control plans, PFMEAs, process flow diagrams, and other quality and manufacturing documentation.
Develop and maintain FMEAs, control plans, flow charts, quality inspection instructions, and SOPs.
Act as a technical resource for all automotive requirements.
Work directly with customers and the sales team to provide technical expertise on quality issues.
Conduct capability studies and GR&R as needed.
Manage customer complaints and quarantine and/or disposition non-conforming material in a timely manner.
Work with cross-functional teams to develop corrective actions using problem-solving tools (5 Whys, fishbone, etc.). Train team members on the use of these tools as required.
Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, and making recommendations.
Provide direction and support to QA.
Provide input in designing and developing check fixtures and gauges.
Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Quality Management System and processes.
Conduct internal audits.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the manager or their designate.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Minimum 8 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum 5 years of direct automotive manufacturing experience.
Hands-on experience with AIAG Core Tools (APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP), continuous improvement (customer support), and systemic/product quality
Working towards ASQ certification through the American Society of Quality (ASQ) for the Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) designation.
Certified Lead Auditor is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to professionally interact with and negotiate with customers on quality concerns in a manufacturing environment, consistently achieving positive resolution.
Technical Skills/Competence
ASQ CQE Certification is preferred
Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Willingness to travel within Canada and the US, with a valid passport
Experience with dimensional reports, statistical studies, data reporting, and facilitating problem-solving activities based on dimensional findings.
Exceptional knowledge and experience with calibration and measurement analysis of various inspection and testing instruments.
Proven experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions for nonconforming products and processes (8D).
Ability to verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Outstanding knowledge of technology and computer programs (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
Direct experience presenting technical information to customer.
Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and IATF
Highly motivated and driven individual
Independent self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision.
Detailed knowledge of aluminum extrusion, fabrication, and finishing processes will be considered an asset.

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 – $90,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and business needs.
