Job Description - Recreation Program Leader

Westside Recreation Centre is a world-class facility based on a lifestyle and wellness concept. Since 2000, we have been providing families with high quality and accessible recreation facilities, programs and services. Recreation Program Leaders facilitate safe, fun, and engaging programs for children 2-15Y including physical literacy, sports, arts & crafts, and more! This is a part-time, hourly role.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:



  • To supervise, lead and instruct recreation programs for children ages 2-6Y, 6-12Y or 13-15Y. Programs include physical literacy, sport skills, group games, crafts, art activities, free swimming time, outdoor activities, and more.

  • To provide a safe, fun and quality experience

  • To complete all required program lesson planning

  • Actively and enthusiastically participate in all aspects of the programs

  • Set Up/ Take Down and general cleaning/maintenance of program equipment (including lifting up to 40 lbs)

  • Administrative duties as required

  • Day to day risk management skills

  • Group control and child guidance skills in groups of up to 24 children

  • Communicate any relevant information, incidents and concerns with parents


To be considered for this role, all candidates must meet the following requirements:



  • Be a minimum 18 years of age

  • Be available for two or more shifts during program hours:

    • 8:30am- 8:30pm Monday-Friday

    • 8:30am-8:30pm Saturday and Sunday



  • Be available for mandatory training starting in September 2026

  • Have current Alberta approved First Aid training agency- CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid.

  • Successful applicant must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Search completed at their own cost


Experience and Qualifications:



  • 2+ years previous experience working with children in a recreation setting or equivalent

  • Relevant certifications such as NCCP/High 5 are considered an asset

  • Education, experience and certifications in physical literacy and fundamental movement skills are considered an asset

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) level 1 or higher considered an asset
