Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking an engaging and collaborative physician leader to join our team as the Regional Medical Director – Regional Maternal/Child Program, Pediatrics.
This position will be 0.4 FTE (2 days/week) for a three (3) year term, with possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory review.
The Regional Medical Director Regional Maternal/Child Program, Pediatrics reports directly to the VCH Vice President, Medicine and Academic Affairs, receiving program direction from the Regional Executive Sponsor to the Senior Executive Team. As a requirement of the role, the Regional Program Medical Director must be a practicing medical staff with clinical responsibility and expertise in the area of focus. Working in a co-leadership role with the Regional Program Director, this position provides strategic senior medical leadership, related to the planning and evaluation of the designated regional program and associated services. This is done in accordance with the vision, mission, values, and goals of the organizations involved in delivering care, and in alignment with VCH and Providence Health Care (PHC) Strategic Plans, Ministry of Health (MoH) mandated deliverables, Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), and best practice quality standards.
In partnership with the Regional Program Director, this role is responsible for coordinating a regional approach to pediatric health, developing quality improvement and evaluation programs, and supporting care providers to utilize best practices for pediatric health. Additionally, this role will develop strategic partnerships and support innovation and research activities that build capacity and enhance the quality and efficacy of pediatric programming in the region. This role works through partnerships with other operational and medical leaders across the Region to achieve regional service goals, implement regional policies and procedures, optimize resources, align services, evaluate quality improvement initiatives, and standardize protocols and guidelines across the program.
This role co-chairs the Regional Program Committee on Pediatrics with the Regional Program Director to ensure consultation, engagement and close collaboration with Communities of Care (CoC) leadership and other partners responsible for delivering health care services, achieving service quality, and meeting volume and metrics standards. This role also ensures consultation with academic leadership to support research and innovation within the program.
Guided by a population health approach, the regional program leadership designs and evaluates services to meet the diverse needs of the VCH/PHC population across life stages, securing a high-quality, safe, and integrated continuum of care. Key Accountabilities:
Note: This role works closely with other Medical and Operational Leaders, often working through influence and relying on staff and resources outside of their direct supervision to deliver high quality programming in alignment with CoC priorities (capabilities) and a regional strategy. We will continue to review, learn and develop these accountabilities over the life of the contract.
As a member of the Medical Staff Leadership Team reporting to the VP Medicine and Academic Affairs and with direction from the Executive Sponsor of the Regional Program, this role is jointly accountable with the Regional Program Executive Director to:
Ensure Equitable and Timely Access to Culturally Safe Care Across VCH and PHC
Ensure Consistent, Low-Carbon, and High-Quality Standards of Care
Coordinate and Align Local, Regional, and Provincial Strategies and Policies
Provide a Single Point of Contact for Each Service Within the Health Authority
