Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Trillium HealthWorks Communications, the Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of high-quality internal and external strategic communications programs to support THP’s major projects. This role is ideal for a creative, strategic and highly collaborative communicator who can translate complex and technical information into clear, concise and compelling stories for a range of audiences.

As part of the Trillium HealthWorks portfolio, you will contribute to complex, high-profile initiatives that require thoughtful storytelling, strong stakeholder alignment, and a focus on outcomes for patients and communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of strategic communications plans that support organizational priorities and major initiatives.
• Lead and support the planning, coordination and execution of community engagement and outreach initiatives, including community events, on-site engagements, tours and information-sharing opportunities that connect THP’s redevelopment work with patients, families, neighbours and community partners.
• Provide strategic communications counsel to senior leaders and internal clients to support effective decision-making and message alignment.
• Develop community engagement strategies, messaging, materials and briefing tools that provide timely, accurate and accessible information about THP’s major projects and redevelopment activities.
• Support opportunities to gather community feedback, identify emerging questions or concerns, and share insights with internal teams to inform communications planning, issues management and stakeholder engagement.
• Translate complex, technical and clinical information into clear, accessible and compelling content for a range of audiences.
• Develop high-quality materials including key messages, media releases, briefing notes, newsletters, speaking remarks and digital content.
• Proactively identify, develop and pitch newsworthy stories to media to enhance THP’s visibility and reputation.
• Manage emerging issues and contribute to risk mitigation, including participation in the communications on-call program as required.
• Leverage digital, social and visual storytelling approaches, including video, photography and web content, to strengthen THP’s brand and engagement.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, consistent and high-impact communications.

Qualifications & Experience

• University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
• 7–10+ years of progressive experience in communications, public affairs, community engagement, stakeholder relations or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience supporting community engagement, consultation, outreach or stakeholder relations activities, ideally in a health care, government, infrastructure or public-sector environment.
• Strong facilitation, consultation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of IAP2 principles, public participation frameworks or best practices in community engagement is considered an asset.
• Exceptional writing, editing and content development skills, with the ability to produce clear and compelling communications.
• Proven experience providing strategic communications counsel to senior leaders and internal clients, including support for complex initiatives and issues.
• Demonstrated experience in media relations, including pitching and placing stories with local, regional or national outlets 
• Strong understanding of digital communications and experience using visual and multimedia storytelling approaches 
• Excellent interpersonal, client management, and stakeholder engagement skills 
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines 
• Results-oriented, collaborative mindset with a commitment to excellence 
• Experience in health care, the public sector, infrastructure, government relations or community-facing organizations is an asset.

Additional Information

• The successful candidate will primarily be based at a THP site and will be required to travel between locations and into the community to support engagement and outreach activities. Reliable access to a vehicle is required.  

• Some evening and weekend work will be required to support community events, outreach activities and organizational priorities.
• Internal candidates who meet the qualifications and have been in their current position for at least six (6) months are encouraged to apply.
