This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer, AI Platform in Canada.
This role sits at the core of a rapidly evolving AI-first product ecosystem, where backend systems define how intelligent automation is delivered across the entire platform. You will help build the foundational architecture that enables AI features, agents, and integrations to operate reliably at scale across multiple product surfaces. The work is highly cross-functional, spanning backend engineering, AI systems design, and platform development. You will be responsible for creating reusable patterns that product teams depend on when shipping AI-powered capabilities. The environment is fast-moving, highly collaborative, and deeply technical, with strong emphasis on ownership and engineering excellence. This is a foundational role where your work directly shapes how AI is embedded across the product.
Accountabilities:
Design, build, and scale the backend infrastructure and platform capabilities that enable AI-powered features, integrations, and data-driven intelligence across the product ecosystem.
- Build and maintain application-layer AI infrastructure, including agent scaffolding, integration patterns, and shared backend services
- Design reliable, scalable integrations with third-party APIs and internal systems to support complex workflows
- Develop data pipelines powering AI systems, including structured data flows, embeddings, and retrieval (RAG) infrastructure
- Build and maintain evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including benchmarking, regression testing, and quality validation
- Collaborate across engineering teams to define and standardize AI architecture patterns and best practices
- Own the reliability, scalability, and performance of backend systems in production environments
- Contribute to technical standards for AI system development across the organization
- Stay current with advancements in AI/LLM technologies and translate them into practical engineering improvements
Requirements:
This role requires strong backend engineering expertise combined with hands-on experience building AI-enabled systems and scalable distributed architectures.
- 5–8 years of backend software engineering experience in production environments
- Proven experience building AI-powered systems, including LLM integrations, agents, or AI-driven features
- Familiarity with LLM APIs and frameworks such as OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, or similar tools
- Experience building evaluation pipelines for AI systems, including testing, benchmarking, and quality measurement
- Strong background in integration engineering and designing robust external service connectors
- Experience with data pipelines for AI use cases, including RAG, embeddings, and vector search
- Strong backend architecture and system design skills with a focus on scalability and reliability
- Experience in high-growth or early-stage environments with strong ownership expectations
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and product teams
- Curiosity for AI systems paired with strong engineering discipline and execution rigor
