Salary Range:$43.47 - $54.34 per hour

Hours:  37.5 hours per week, Weekdays & Weekends

Status: Permanent Full-time,

Job Summary

As an integral member of Allied Health, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides assessment and treatment for adult patients with communication and swallowing disorders. The successful candidate will work in a progressive multi-professional team, participate in rounds, meetings and quality initiatives and assist with coverage across other clinical service areas as necessary.  Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides swallowing and communication intervention to patients across Toronto Rehab. The candidate will perform all other duties as required. 

Duties

  • Provide evidence-based assessment, management and counselling of patients with voice, fluency, language, cognitive-communicative, swallowing and motor speech disorders.  
  • Provide treatment and education services to patients, with a focus on planning for return to work or return to school for many patients.  
  • Rehabilitation potential of patients based on environmental considerations, assessments of other health care professionals as well as speech and language assessment will result in innovative individual and group-based models of clinical intervention; realistic goals and objectives for effective patient management, and referrals to community agencies where appropriate. 
  • The SLP will facilitate communication exchanges between patients and other professions;
  • Provide family members, caregivers, staff, and volunteers education in management techniques/approaches; initiate and participate in inter-professional and service specific patient-focused research;
  • Participate in program planning and quality improvement initiatives;
  • This role is a unique one at Toronto Rehab, by where the Float SLP will primarily provide coverage across all clinical settings, helping to ensure consistency in SLP services.
  • he SLP will also provide clinical supervision to SLP graduate students, interns, volunteers and CASLPO initial practice registrants on occasion.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, or equivalent, required
  • Registration with College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathology of Ontario (CASLPO) required
  • Ontario Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA) preferred

    Basic Cardiac Life Support (C Level) Heart Saver Plus Canada (on employment)
  • Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience with adult neurogenic communication disorders required
  • Minimum of two years clinical experience in neurorehabilitation
  • Clinical experience with acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and /or experience working with patients with dementia an asset
  • Dysphagia experience (including videofluoroscopy assessment) preferred
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of adult neurogenic communication disorders

    Experience in dysphagia and video fluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing
  • Experience in implementing group models of therapy and education

    Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills

    Computer proficiency preferred
