Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Systems Specialist (Signals) to join our Engineering Team! As part of the Engineering Department, you will be responsible for supporting the design, operational requirements, and/or implementation of the communications, or signals & train control systems for the applicable project/program.

What You Will Do


  • Report to the Chief Engineer, Systems, and ensure that objectives and scope for signals and train control systems—both conventional and CBTC—are clearly defined, agreed upon, and documented at the outset of each project or program.

  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement throughout all relevant phases of the project/program lifecycle to ensure alignment and collaboration.

  • Coordinate with internal departments such as Signals Engineering and Automatic Train Control (ATC) to secure engineering resources, conduct scope and design reviews, and support commissioning and final system acceptance.

  • Contribute to the development of system and subsystem requirements, specifications, operational processes, and both preliminary and detailed designs tailored to the specific project/program environment.

  • Assist in the preparation of contract documents, including defining contract conditions and realistic timelines that align with budgetary constraints and project commitments.

  • Provide systems-related input to project/program plans and schedules, particularly for design and implementation phases.

  • Participate in regular technical reviews with project/program teams and the Operations Group to ensure adherence to objectives, quality standards, and TTC procedures.

  • Support on-site construction, testing, and commissioning activities to verify compliance with project/program requirements.

  • Maintain timely and effective communication among project/program teams, the Operations Group, engineering/design consultants, municipal partners, city agencies, and contractors.

What Qualifications Do You Bring


  • A completed university degree in Engineering or a related discipline is required. Candidates should also possess extensive project experience in system engineering and management. A combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered equivalent.

  • P.Eng. designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is considered an asset.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is also an asset.

  • Prior experience working on public rail transit projects is required.

  • Experience in a rail operating environment is considered an asset.

  • In-depth and current knowledge of design engineering principles and practices related to Fixed Block, Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC), and mixed-mode systems.

  • Strong understanding of risk identification and mitigation strategies to ensure seamless transitions across all phases of the project lifecycle.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of testing principles, construction methods, contract administration, and inspection processes.

  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations, including the Construction Lien Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and local trade rules.

  • Proven ability to prepare and interpret complex technical reports, identify issues, and evaluate effective solutions.

  • Exceptional technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication abilities.

  • Excellent engineering report-writing capabilities.

  • Solid understanding of applicable codes, standards, and practices related to electrical and electronic systems.

  • Familiarity with interfacing subsystems such as Traction Power, Tunnel Ventilation Systems, SCADA, and Trackwork.
