Underground Drifter Repair Technician (Bilingual)

SMS Equipment continues to grow its Underground operations and is seeking an Underground Drifter Repair Technician to join our team in Val d’Or, QC. Fluency in French is required for this position.

This is a shop-based role, focused on component rebuilds and rockdrill diagnostics in a clean, well-equipped environment. Occasional travel to customer sites may be required.

Base Wage: $48.16 per hour, plus applicable premiums*.
Location: Val-d’Or, QC.
Schedule: 5x2
*Additional market premium brings rate to approximately $52.97 per hour. Other assignment-based premiums and allowances may apply.  

What You’ll Do

• Perform full overhauls, diagnostics, and repairs on underground drifters—primarily Montabert and will also work with Sandvik and Epiroc.


• Diagnose malfunctions using proper testing equipment and provide recommendations based on repair needs.


• Complete a full inspection with precise measurements.


• Maintain detailed service reports, timecards, and warranty documentation.


• Travel to customer sites as needed.
  
  

What You Bring

The successful candidate will have completed their Heavy-Duty Mechanic Diploma or Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (HDET) certification, with at least 3 years of experience in underground heavy equipment maintenance. Machinists and Millwrights are also invited to apply. Other requirements include:

• Experience with bolters and jumbos is an asset.


• Strong diagnostic skills in hydraulic, electronic, mechanical, and electrical systems.


• Strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety, including understanding and complying with all requirements.


• A commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment.


• Modular Mine Worker Training (FMTM) – Modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 is an asset


• Individual General Explosive Permit through QC government is an asset.
