Come join our team as a trainee and learn the skills needed to become a Workcar Operator and be a part of the team in making our system run.
The work will normally be performed on the Night Shift with Thursday/Friday as off days. The primary work location will be Greenwood Shop, however reporting locations will vary as dictated by work assignments.
This is motorized equipment and non-revenue rail vehicle operation of a routine nature in the Subway Track Maintenance section in the Track & Structure Department. The work involves the safe and efficient operation of non-specialized work cars such as flat cars, locomotives, wall washing units, rail cleaning cars, rail grinding cars, pumper/vacuum cars, ballast cars, steel-wheeled snow removal equipment, etc. The work entails the operation of non-revenue rail vehicles for the delivery of tools, materials, supplies, parts and equipment to various TTC locations and work sites; loading and unloading cargo; pushing/pulling non-powered cars; grinding rails, washing/cleaning of walls and rails, spreading of ballast, pumping/vacuuming of track drains, etc.
The incumbents will also operate battery recharging equipment, perform daily service checks on the workcars and perform Track Maintainer duties or assist with a wide variety of manual tasks when a vehicle is not available or is in continuous operation.
