Position Overview






Resumes are being accepted for the internship opportunity of Downtown Construction Site and Communications Intern in the Capital Planning team. This position will have a focus on assisting with design and construction project delivery including, documentation, monitoring, communication, and construction management in the field across various sites in Guelph, with a focus on Downtown Guelph.

 

Your role

  • Assist the Downtown Renewal Project Team with project communications.
  • Monitor and triage the shared inbox and coordinate timely responses with appropriate staff
  • Provide weekly updates on communications efforts to the Downtown Renewal Project Team
  • Assist the Downtown Renewal Project Team with other tasks as required.
  • Complete daily site inspection including reviewing work against contract drawings, monitoring health and safety items, and supporting Site Inspectors with other tasks as identified
  • Assist various contract administrators with daily work including updating documentation logs, monitoring project submittals, and supporting Contract Administrators with other tasks as identified
  • Support the activities of the Capital Planning and Growth and Construction Services Teams.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Eligibility Requirements:

Permanent Residents, Protected Persons, Convention Refugees, Live-in Caregivers, are screened to ensure candidates:

    • Have at least a Canadian Language Benchmark 6/7
    • Have international education and/or experience as listed below
    • Are currently unemployed or underemployed
    • Are registered or eligible to register with Starling Community Services
    • Lives in Guelph/Wellington County to be eligible for grant
  • Must live in Guelph/Wellington County to be eligible for grant
  • Must possess a valid ‘G” drivers license with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their license is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in engineering, planning or equivalent.
  • Certification or eligible for certification as an Engineering Technician or Technologist by OACETT considered an asset.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office specifically, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure and project management preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including staff, management and the general public.

Hours of work

35 hours per week; Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

 

Rate of Pay

$22.90 per hour
