Position Summary:

Program Assistant C (Biodiversity Monitoring & Engagement Intern)

CONTEXT

The mission of MOOS is to create a culture of sustainability at McGill. MOOS aims to identify, connect, and enhance efforts to incorporate principles of sustainability (ecological, social, and economic) into research, education, connectivity, operations, and governance & administration at McGill. We provide the institutional memory and knowledge, the network of partnerships, the framework for sustainability at McGill (Climate & Sustainability Strategy), and the seed funding (Sustainability Projects Fund) to facilitate the sustainability efforts of students, faculty, and staff.

DUTIES

• Assist in developing and monitoring biodiversity indicators in campus greenspaces, including zones established through recent biodiversity initiatives.
• Collaborate with students and faculty to support data collection and promote the use of greenspaces as living laboratories.
• Conduct in-person and virtual outreach to educate the McGill community about biodiversity protection and benefits.
• Help coordinate activities and plan events to engage McGillians and community members on biodiversity initiatives.
• Coordinate and collaborate with the MOOS communications team on the creation of biodiversity-related social media content.
• Others, as they may arise.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

• Background and/or experience in ecology, environment, or related field(s)
• Reliable, with strong organization and time management skills
• Ability to work independently, with limited supervision
• Experience in communication and content creation an asset
• Experience in event planning an asset
• Ability to communicate in French an asset
• Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and groups at McGill an asset

The candidates must be McGill students and be based in Montreal, including during the summer holidays.
