Social Media & Content Intern



This summer position is fulltime for 8 weeks starting June 8, 2026. 



Location: 5121 Sackville Street, Halifax NS B3J K1K
Reports to: Communications and Outreach Coordinator
Organization: Ulnooweg Education Centre



The Ulnooweg Education Centre (UEC) is seeking an enthusiastic Indigenous youth to join our team as a Social Media & Content Intern during the summer months. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital communications, storytelling, and media production while supporting youth-focused programs and community events across the region.



About the Role


Working closely with our Communications and Outreach Coordinator, you’ll help capture, create, and share stories that celebrate Indigenous innovation, culture, and learning. You’ll travel to various Ulnooweg programs, such as camps and community events to support live coverage, create multimedia content, and help share the impact of our work across all our digital platforms.



Key Responsibilities



  • Content Creation: Assist in developing written, visual, and multimedia content for social media, web, and e-newsletters.

  • Editing & Production: Support the editing and production of videos, photos, and infographics.

  • Event Coverage: Attend and document programs and events through photography, videography, and social media coverage for one or more events.

  • Community Storytelling: Help share inspiring stories from youth, Elders, and community members involved in UEC summer programs.

  • Digital Support: Assist with scheduling posts, maintaining social media engagement, and tracking content performance.

  • Reporting: Track and report monthly social media performance. Capture and archive media engagement, impact, and highlights for funding/sponsorship reporting.



Essential Skills & Qualities



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Creativity and an eye for visual storytelling.

  • Basic digital and media editing skills (Canva, CapCut, Adobe Express, etc.).

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)

  • Basic content creation skills and willingness to learn.

  • Interest in Indigenous education, community development, or digital storytelling.

  • Basic reporting on insights, impact and reach via digital marketing tools



Requirements



  • Must be an Indigenous youth (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis) between the ages of 15–30.

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.

  • Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.

  • Willingness to travel within Atlantic Canada and work occasional evenings or weekends.

Guided by the Mi’kmaw principle of Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing), Ulnooweg brings together Indigenous Knowledge and other ways of learning through land-based education and STEAM programming. Our work is grounded in strong partnerships with communities, Elders, and Knowledge Holders, ensuring our programs are respectful, relevant, and community-led.
