Job Description - Community Support Worker (North Vancouver) - Part-Time, Permanent

Strive Living Society is looking for a Community Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to an adult in our Hybrid Supported Home Share Program in North Vancouver.


The individual has complex support needs, including developmental disabilities, mental health-related needs, and challenging behaviours. We are looking for someone who can provide calm, consistent, and person-centred support while following established support plans, safety protocols, and daily routines.


The successful candidate will support the individual with daily living skills, meal preparation and cooking, community integration, appointments, and meaningful activities while promoting independence and overall well-being.


Schedule: Monday to Friday, 4:00 PM–8:00 PM (20 hours/week)

Pay rate: $27.53/hour *plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.


*Some benefits have eligibility requirements of surpassing three (3) months and securing a regular position of 20 hours/week or more. The benefits and criteria may change from time to time at the discretion of Strive.


The ideal applicant shall possess:



  • Experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities and complex mental health needs

  • Experience or understanding of supporting individuals experiencing psychosis and mood-related symptoms

  • Experience or knowledge related to seizure disorders and seizure response protocols

  • Ability to provide calm, consistent, and person-centred support

  • Ability to recognize changes in behaviour, mood, or presentation and respond appropriately according to established support plans

  • Experience implementing individual protocols, schedules, and daily routines

  • Ability and willingness to plan and prepare meals and support the individual with cooking

  • Ability to create and maintain a meaningful and engaging routine

  • Ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate support

  • Ability to support community integration, including appointments, errands, walks, and recreational activities

  • Ability to establish rapport while maintaining clear and appropriate professional boundaries

  • Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills

  • Ability to complete daily documentation using a Microsoft-based database

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the individual’s support network, service providers, and multidisciplinary team

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Access to a computer and reliable internet

  • Physical ability to perform all duties required of the position


Job qualifications include (if you do not have all of these, but demonstrate you are a good fit for the position, Strive may be able assist you to acquire some of these requirements):



  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and clean driver’s abstract – required

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Diploma or degree in Community Support, Social Services, Human Services, or a related field preferred

  • Criminal Record Check clearance through the Ministry of Justice

  • First Aid and CPR Certificate

  • MANDT Training – provided in-house

  • Positive Behaviour Support/Management training considered an asset

  • FoodSafe Certificate

  • Two professional references

  • Other training or requirements specific to the individual being supported
