Loopstra Nixon LLP is seeking an experienced Leasing Clerk to work closely with a senior lawyer in managing the leasing process for a large national franchisor client.
This remote, part-time position involves regular communication with the client, landlords, external counsel, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with strong commercial retail leasing experience and the ability to manage files and deadlines independently.
What you will be doing:
Draft, review, and interpret commercial real estate documents, including offers to lease, leases, lease renewals, subleases, pylon agreements, and estoppel certificates.
Identify and flag material landlord positions, non-standard provisions, and unfavourable terms for the client’s review and approval.
Address day-to-day leasing matters, including rent calculations, maintenance obligations, construction issues, and other lease-related concerns.
Ensure leasing documents comply with applicable legislation and the client’s signing-authority requirements.
Track and coordinate the satisfaction of conditions precedent and subsequent, including landlord and tenant conditions and due diligence periods.
Monitor key dates, deadlines, obligations, and material lease provisions using the client’s internal systems.
Communicate professionally and effectively with the client, landlords, external counsel, and other parties throughout the leasing process.
Qualifications:
A minimum of five years of relevant experience gained within a commercial real estate law firm, an in-house legal department for a national tenant, or a commercial real estate brokerage.
Strong knowledge of commercial retail leasing transactions and documentation.
A post-secondary degree or diploma in law clerk or paralegal studies, legal administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, external counsel, landlords, and colleagues.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple files, priorities, and deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Adobe Acrobat and document-management systems. Experience with NetDocuments is preferred.
