SALARY RANGE: $66,560–$70,720 per year (based on a 40-hour work week; salary will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled hours).

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is a 22-unit supportive housing program with a 12-bed emergency shelter that provides both long-term housing and short-term emergency accommodation for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

SCSA has a long history of supporting people experiencing housing instability. Building on our previous shelter operations at Broadway Place, our team is passionate about helping participants and guests find stability, safety, and belonging. Through our partnership with BC Housing, we provide shelter, housing support, meals, hygiene services, life skills development, case planning, and connections to community resources. Our goal is to help individuals move toward greater independence while feeling respected, supported, and at home.

Goodacre Place works closely with community partners, healthcare providers, Indigenous organizations, and social service agencies to ensure participants have access to the supports they need to thrive.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Supportive Housing & Shelter Supervisor plays a key leadership role in the daily operations of Goodacre Place. This position provides direct supervision, training, mentorship, and support to frontline staff while helping ensure the program operates safely, effectively, and in alignment with SCSA's values and service standards.

The Supervisor works closely with the Site Manager to maintain program accountability, support participant success, and foster a positive team culture. This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about supporting vulnerable populations, developing staff, and creating safe, inclusive housing environments.

The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills while promoting trauma-informed, participant-centered, and harm-reduction approaches.

What You'll Do

1. Team Leadership & Staff Development:

• Supervise, coach, and support frontline staff in their day-to-day work.


• Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and training.


• Provide ongoing feedback, mentorship, and performance support.


• Coordinate staff scheduling and provide coverage when required.


• Promote a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.


• Assist in resolving workplace concerns and supporting staff development.

2. Participant Support & Case Planning:

• Support participant intake, assessment, and service planning processes.


• Gather information through interviews, observations, and collaboration with participants, caregivers, and service providers.


• Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individualized support and housing plans.


• Support participants using trauma-informed, person-centered, and harm-reduction practices.


• Build collaborative relationships with participants, families, caregivers, and community supports.

3. Program & Facility Operations:

• Support the overall operation of the supportive housing and shelter programs.


• Ensure a safe, clean, welcoming, and secure environment for participants, guests, staff, and visitors.


• Monitor program compliance with policies, procedures, and BC Housing requirements.


• Ensure documentation, case notes, reports, and statistics are accurate, complete, and up to date.


• Participate in administrative duties and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

4. Crisis Intervention & Community Collaboration:

• Respond to and support staff during crises, emergencies, and critical incidents.


• Utilize de-escalation techniques and ensure emergency procedures are followed.


• Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, Indigenous organizations, outreach teams, law enforcement, and other community partners.


• Support participant access to housing, health, mental health, substance use, and other community-based services.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Diploma in Social Services, Human Services, Community Support, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.


• Minimum one (1) year of recent related experience, preferably in supportive housing, shelters, residential programs, or community-based social services.


• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge & Experience

• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, mental health challenges, and/or substance use concerns.


• Knowledge of harm reduction principles, trauma-informed practice, and participant-centered approaches.


• Experience with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques.


• Understanding of violence prevention and workplace safety practices.


• Knowledge of community resources and housing support systems.


• Understanding of the Residential Tenancy Act is considered an asset.


• Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and communities is considered an asset.

Certifications

Current or willingness to obtain:

• First Aid & CPR Certification


• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)


• Naloxone Administration Training


• Food Safe Certification

• Knowledge of trauma-informed, participant-centered, and harm reduction practices.


• Ability to assess risk, respond to crises, and implement behaviour support strategies.


• Understanding of diverse lived experiences and barriers related to poverty, culture, race, religion, gender identity, and sexual orientation.


• Familiarity with individualized service planning and participant support.

3. Collaboration & Communication:

• Ability to build collaborative relationships with participants, families, caregivers, community partners, and Indigenous organizations.


• Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills.


• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

4. Technical Skills:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, databases, and electronic record-keeping systems.


• Ability to maintain accurate documentation, reports, and participant records.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

• Undergo a Criminal Record Check


• Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
