Development Engineer Cryogenic Quantum Control Electronics

Job Description - Development Engineer Cryogenic Quantum Control Electronics

Help create the products for Cryogenic Quantum Control

Quantum Machines is a global leader in hybrid control systems for quantum computing, a field on the verge of exponential growth. Our innovative hardware and software offer a groundbreaking approach to controlling quantum computers, scaling from individual qubits to arrays of thousands. At the heart of QM is a passionate, ambitious team committed to transforming the construction and operation of quantum computers. Our deep understanding of customer needs drives us to deliver unmatched solutions in this revolutionary field.

Quantum Machines is establishing a dedicated Cryogenic Control team as part of our Cryo Product Line. We are looking for a Development Engineer with a strong background in electronics development, ideally with experience in IC validation, RF/mixed-signal electronics or semiconductor applications.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of quantum technology, cryogenic electronics, semiconductor development and advanced hardware engineering. You will help turn emerging technologies into products that solve real scaling challenges for quantum-computing customers.

As a Development Engineer in Cryogenic Control, you will help create and integrate the products defined in our product strategy and contribute to the development of Quantum Machines’ cryogenic control electronics activities. You will evaluate semiconductor technologies and supplier offerings and develop their integration into our large-scale solutions for quantum chip packaging.

A key initial objective will be to participate in identifying, evaluating and productising cryogenic multiplexer technologies together with the associated carriers, packages and test infrastructure.

You will work closely with quantum physicists, electronics engineers, packaging specialists, semiconductor partners, foundries and suppliers.

The role requires an engineer who can understand the system-level requirements, translate them into practical hardware solutions and help drive emerging technologies toward reliable products with a fast time to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate cryogenic control electronics into Quantum Machines’ quantum chip carrier solutions.
  • Evaluate and characterize cryogenic ICs and technologies from semiconductor partners and suppliers.
  • Design PCBs, test substrates and electrical interfaces for cryogenic electronics.
  • Develop and execute electrical and cryogenic characterization and validation.
  • Work with IC, packaging and quantum specialists to turn emerging technologies into robust product solutions.

We expect you to have:

  • A strong foundation in electronic engineering or applied physics.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic hardware development, test and validation.
  • Experience with ICs, mixed-signal, RF/microwave electronics or semiconductor applications.
  • Experience designing PCBs, test hardware or electronic interfaces.
  • Strong experimental and measurement skills.

Experience with cryogenic electronics, quantum-control systems or semiconductor packaging is highly valuable, but not required.

Experience from a commercial technology organisation is an advantage. You may currently work in electronics development, semiconductor applications, IC validation, product development or advanced hardware engineering.

Previous experience with quantum or cryogenic systems is an advantage, but we expect the right engineer to learn the application domain as part of the role.

What You Bring

  • Strong engineering judgement and a hands-on approach to hardware development.
  • The ability to turn concepts into prototypes, measurements and working solutions.
  • Strong experimental and data-driven problem-solving skills.
  • System-level thinking across ICs, electronics and packaging.
  • Pragmatic engineering, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability and speed.

Experience with fabless semiconductor development, foundry processes, technology transfer, semiconductor packaging or outsourced manufacturing would be an advantage.
