Biomarker Assay Development

Your new role

As our new Senior Principal Scientist, your primary responsibility will involve supporting LC-MS projects across Research & Development in close collaboration with stakeholders. Key responsibilities will include: 

• Acting as a senior scientific partner and SME in multidisciplinary project teams and interacting with stakeholders from different parts of Novo Nordisk.   

• Translating biological questions into biomarker assay plans, that support target engagement, proof-of-mechanism, and mechanism-of-action understanding.   

• Developing fit‑for‑purpose LC‑MS based assays for quantitative biomarker analysis, covering small molecule biomarkers (amino acids, fatty acids, and other metabolites) as well as specific proteins. 

• Provide technical guidance and support on assay methodologies and best practices.  

• Oversee and manage outsourcing activities and ensure timely delivery of high-quality data.   

• Managing multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery of assays and data to gate-driven milestones. 

• Mentor and train junior colleagues.   

• Help promote a culture of innovation and curiosity, while maintaining accountability and timely delivery of high-quality scientific data. 

Your new department 

In Biomarker Assay Development, we establish and qualify biomarker assays that support drug discovery and generate critical data for advancing the next generation of therapies. We are two departments with 27 highly skilled scientists and technicians based in Måløv, Greater Copenhagen, and we specialise in LC‑MS, flow cytometry and ligand binding assays. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are central to our culture and to the impact we make for patients. 

The departments are part of Non‑Clinical and Clinical Assay Sciences (NCAS), which supports non‑clinical studies and clinical trials with regulated assays for bioanalysis, immunogenicity assessment and biomarkers. 

Your skills & qualifications 

• Ph.D. within Life Sciences (e.g. analytical chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, bioanalysis, mass spectrometry).


• A minimum of 8 years of experience in the development and delivery of targeted LC-MS assays for quantitative biomarker analysis.


• Hands-on expertise in LC-MS method development for quantitative assays, including experience with small molecule biomarkers as well as specific proteins. 


• Experience outsourcing and managing CRO activities. 


• Thorough understanding of preclinical research and early clinical development. 


• Experience in navigating within an environment of high complexity, non-standard approaches, and diverse tasks in known and new therapy areas. 


• Strong communication skills enabling clear presentation of scientific data and discussions in assay expert groups and cross-functional teams. 


• Experience with affinity‑based proteomics platforms such as Olink and SomaScan (SomaLogic) as well as ligand binding assays will be an advantage.

Salary:  For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from 847,000.00 to 1,245,100.00 DKK, corresponding to the level of the position.

The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience.
