Job Description - Student Assistant for Pharmacometrics - Coding, AI & Scientific Software Infrastructure

.

Do you want to use your coding skills to support model‑based drug development in real clinical projects? Are you curious about R packages, AI‑assisted workflows and scientific software infrastructure used in pharmaceutical research? We are looking for two motivated Student Assistants to join our Pharmacometrics area at Novo Nordisk in Søborg.

Your new role

As our Student Assistant, you will primarily support colleagues working with R packages, modelling infrastructure, automation, documentation and AI-enabled workflows. You may also occasionally support pharmacometrics modelling scientists with smaller technical or data-related tasks.

The role is well suited for a student who enjoys writing clean code, structuring information, improving workflows and solving practical problems that help many people work better. Your tasks may include:

  • Contributing to internal R packages, for example by fixing smaller bugs, improving functions, writing tests or updating examples

  • Supporting package documentation, including “getting started” guides, vignettes, user instructions and examples

  • Helping maintain and improve internal PMX IT guidance and other documentation used across the department

  • Working with Git for version control, issue tracking, pull requests and code review workflows

  • Digitising figures and plots from relevant scientific publications, potentially using approved AI or LLM-based approaches

  • Supporting exploratory side-projects involving AI, automation or workflow optimisation

  • Helping structure information so it can be reused across projects, for example in databases, templates or shared repositories

  • Occasionally assisting modelling scientists with data preparation, quality control, literature extraction or reproducible analysis tasks

You will work closely with experienced colleagues who will review your work, help you develop your skills and make sure your contributions fit into our scientific and technical workflows.

Your new department

You will join a multidisciplinary Pharmacometrics department of approximately 40 scientists with diverse quantitative backgrounds. The department supports clinical development projects across Novo Nordisk using model‑based approaches, from early clinical development to regulatory submissions.

In addition to project modelling, the department places increasing focus on robust infrastructure, reusable tools, high‑quality documentation and AI‑supported workflows to enable efficient and reproducible science. You will be part of an ambitious, collaborative environment where your technical contributions can support many colleagues and ultimately help bring new medicines to patients.

Your skills and qualifications

We are looking for curious and responsible students who are eager to apply their technical skills in a real‑world scientific setting. You are preferably early in your studies, with at least a couple of years left, allowing us to invest in your development over time.

You ideally bring:

  • Ongoing studies in computer science, software engineering, data science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, physics, bioinformatics, pharmacy or similar

  • Programming experience in R; Python experience is also relevant

  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative code workflows

  • Experience with writing, testing or documenting code, such as R packages, Quarto or Markdown

  • An interest in scientific computing, automation or AI‑based tools

You do not need prior experience in pharmacometrics. What matters most is that you are structured, quality‑minded, comfortable asking questions and motivated to build tools that other scientists can rely on. You are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
