Thermo Fisher Scientific recently announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its microbiology business to Astorg, a leading pan-European private equity firm with deep expertise in healthcare, focused on a select set of subsectors, including pharmaceutical services and technology, medtech and related services, life science tools and diagnostics.

This decision follows a thoughtful evaluation as part of Thermo Fisher’s ongoing business strategy to actively manage and strengthen our portfolio.

We expect the transaction will be completed in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory approvals. Until the transaction is complete, Thermo Fisher will continue to operate the business.

If you join the microbiology business prior to the close of the transaction, your employment is expected to transition to Astorg.

Our Finland locations include Vantaa and Joensuu, employing over 800 professionals in R&D, production, supply chain, quality, marketing, sales, and administrative support. We hire experts in different fields including engineering, chemistry, and microbiology. 

Our Vantaa site develops laboratory automation solutions, clinical chemistry and industrial chemistry analyzers and assays, food safety kits, and other diagnostics and research solutions. 

How will you make an impact? 

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to support the development and manufacturing of molecular food protection diagnostic products in Vantaa. 

In this role, you will work across functions to support production, maintain and improve manufacturing processes, and ensure smooth introduction of new products. Your work will help ensure high quality and reliable delivery to our customers. 

What will you do? 

• Maintain product structures (BOM) and manufacturing documentation  
• Support and improve manufacturing processes  
• Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECO) in PLM (Oracle) and ERP (SAP)  
• Collaborate with QA and R&D on product changes and drive process changes
• Support new product introduction (NPI) and drive validation activities  
• Contribute to continuous improvement and non-conformance handling  
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and support troubleshooting.

How will you get there? 

• Relevant degree (engineering, biosciences, or similar) or equivalent experience  
• Experience in laboratory and/or manufacturing environment  
• Understanding of production processes and quality systems  
• Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle)  
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills  
• Fluent in Finnish and English  

Nice to have: Experience with automation, GMP, or Lean/Six Sigma
