Material Management Specialist, Team Lead

KONE Elevator Factory is an elevator design, manufacturing and distribution unit located in Hyvinkää, Finland. It is a part of global KONE Manufacturing Network and Supply Unit’s organization.   

KONE Elevator Factory supplies special elevator solutions to a variety of end-users worldwide, including office buildings, hotels, hospitals, and larger projects, such as cruisers and airports.  

We are now looking for Material Management Specialist, team lead for KONE Elevator Factory Material Management organization in Hyvinkää. 

Material Management (MM) Specialist is responsible for ensuring the factory has access to materials and inputs it needs to operate successfully and effectively. He / She takes care of daily purchasing activities and monitors the performance of suppliers in his/her specific portfolio. In this role person co-operates closely with production, supply project management, suppliers, and sourcing on daily basis. 

In addition to MM Specialist duties, the selected candidate acts as the Team Lead for the Project and Special Material Management team and has direct supervisory responsibility for the team members. The role includes people management, daily work planning, performance follow-up, and coaching, and close cooperation with HR-related topics. The Team Lead supports the Factory Material Manager by leading and coordinating the team’s daily activities to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and on-time material management operations.

Material Management Specialist, team lead reports to Material Manager of Hyvinkää Manufacturing Unit.  

Key responsibilities:  

• Prepare and manage special material purchases for most unique elevator projects 

• Perform and coordinate daily purchasing activities timely and as per requirements  
• Work actively with suppliers and monitor supplier performance 
• Close collaboration with internal stakeholders (production, supply projects, sourcing, logistics) to ensure seamless flow of materials 
• Give guidance and instructions to the team in daily work 
• Monitor the performance and achievements of the team 

• Assign tasks to team members (including the ones that you will manage) 
• Follow up and balance the workload within the team 
• Motivate the team, drive performance, and make sure the skills of the team are used effectively   to achieve goals 
• Develop actively the ways of working  
• Report progress of tasks and results to Material Manager  

Requirements: 

• M.Sc or B.Sc degree in relevant field (commercial, industrial engineering, logistics) 
• Three years of supervisory experience
• Proven experience to lead projects from initiation to completion. 
• Prior working experience in purchasing or sourcing 

• Experience in leading a team  
• Collaborative and customer focused way of working 
• Excellent communication skills both in Finnish and in English 
• Ability for independent decision making and escalation when required to meet customer expectations 

• Ability to keep difficulties in perspective and excellent problem-solving skills 
• Proactive working style and proven track record of getting things done 
• Capability to prioritize tasks when needed
