Background
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming dental imaging and clinical decision support. In endodontics, accurate identification and segmentation of dental roots are critical for diagnosis, treatment planning, and procedural guidance.
To develop next-generation Deep Learning algorithms capable of automatically detecting and segmenting dental roots on radiographic and CBCT images, large volumes of high-quality annotated data are required. Creating such datasets remains one of the major challenges in medical AI development.
Internship Objectives
The objective of this internship is to contribute to the creation of a large-scale annotated dataset of dental roots that will be used to train and validate Deep Learning models for endodontic applications.
The intern will work closely with AI engineers and dental experts to ensure the quality, consistency, and clinical relevance of the annotations.
Main Responsibilities
- Review dental root anatomy and endodontic imaging principles.
- Learn and use dedicated medical image annotation software.
- Follow annotation guidelines developed by the research team.
- Perform detailed manual annotation of dental roots on dental radiographs and CBCT images.
- Verify annotation consistency and identify potential labeling errors.
- Participate in quality control activities and inter-annotator agreement studies.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of annotation protocols.
- Collaborate with AI researchers to understand how annotations impact model performance.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining large, annotated datasets.
- Contribute to technical documentation and project reports.
Candidate Profile
- Undergraduate or graduate student in Dentistry, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Strong interest in Artificial Intelligence and healthcare technologies.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks with high accuracy.
- Basic knowledge of dental anatomy is highly desirable.
- Experience with image analysis, computer vision, or medical imaging is a plus.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
