Asset Management - Control Management - Vice President

JPMorgan Asset Management is seeking a Vice President to join the APAC Control Management team, based in Hong Kong. You will help strengthen the operational risk and control environment across the Asset Management business in Asia Pacific, partnering with stakeholders across Investments, Client, Product, Distribution, Operations, Technology, and Business Management.

This role supports regional execution of global control expectations while appropriately incorporating APAC regulatory and market requirements. You will own and drive key control activities (risk & control identification, issues and events management, exams, governance, and support for new initiatives) and provide effective challenge to foster a proactive risk and control culture. Success requires strong stakeholder management across multiple jurisdictions and time zones, with clear escalation, high-quality documentation, and a continuous improvement mindset (including simplification and automation where appropriate).

Job responsibilities 

• Support Control Management activities across APAC Asset Management, translating global control expectations into practical regional and local execution.
• Own and drive risk & control identification, risk events management, issues management, exam management, governance routines, and control support for new business initiatives.
• Partner across the three lines of defense and key stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Technology) to strengthen operational risk practices and control programs, including KRIs/metrics and control effectiveness evaluation.
• Contribute to controls governance and reporting; identify meaningful metrics, surface control gaps, and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Coordinate and support regulatory, audit, and oversight interactions, including preparing materials, coordinating responses, and maintaining clear documentation and evidence.
• Support root cause analysis for client-impacting errors and operational incidents; track remediation actions to closure and help embed sustained improvements.
• Partner across multiple time zones to promote global consistency in control practices while incorporating APAC-specific requirements.
• Promote innovation in controls by simplifying processes, reducing manual touchpoints, improving management information, and supporting scalable solutions (including automation where appropriate).
• Participate in regional control initiatives and governance forums to drive consistent outcomes and local adoption aligned with global standards.
• Support and influence control frameworks across multiple APAC jurisdictions in partnership with local business, compliance, risk, and control teams.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of: Asset Management; Control Management/Compliance/Risk Management/Internal Audit; Regulatory/Compliance/Governance; or Business Management within financial services.
• Strong intellectual curiosity and ability to learn quickly across new subject matters, regulatory requirements, and business activities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, concise messaging for senior stakeholders.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across functions, levels, and geographies in a matrixed environment.
• Experience driving sustainable control improvements, governance processes, issue remediation, regulatory engagements, audit support, and/or operational risk frameworks.
• Ability to plan and execute initiatives end-to-end (workplans, stakeholder alignment, removing blockers, and high-quality delivery under timelines).
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) written, verbal, and presentation skills, including preparing executive-level materials.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

• Experience working across multiple APAC countries/cultures and navigating differing regulatory environments.
• Demonstrated ability to support or lead regulatory exams and ongoing supervisory interactions.
• Experience enhancing controls through data/MI improvements, workflow redesign, and/or automation.
• Prior experience in APAC Asset Management operations, investment platform, product, or distribution environments.
• Comfort operating across time zones with global stakeholders to drive consistent standards and outcomes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Visio preferred)
