Job Description - Assistant - Library

King George V School is seeking an enthusiastic person to help in the Learning Resources Centre (LRC). The LRC is a vital hub of learning and inquiry for approximately 1,900 students. The successful candidate will be part of the LRC team of 3, in a vibrant culture of reading across Years 7–13.

Main Accountabilities

PART 1: For Reading Centre

  • Develop the role of the reading centre at KGV and take a proactive role to support and encourage fiction reading across the school.

  • Take an active role in selecting, ordering and maintaining a first-rate literature collection, tailored to the needs of the School.

  • Collaborate on and lead where appropriate reading events, competitions and activities (e.g. KGV Literature Festival, author's talk, and 1-to-1 book chat with students).

  • Deliver sessions to groups/clubs and classes (e.g. How to use the library catalogue).

PART 2: For Learning Resources Centre

  • Manage circulation services and other library duties (repair and shelving, etc.).

  • Cataloguing resources in various languages, such as Chinese and English.

  • Collection evaluation and development.

  • Managing library subscriptions.

  • Compile statistical reports.

  • Conducting research to support teaching and learning.

  • Producing LRC publications and promotional materials.

  • Facilities management and booking.

  • Communicate directly with students, parents, teachers, outside agencies, and schools, as appropriate.

  • Lead student groups where appropriate.

  • Ad Hoc duties assigned by the line manager.

Requirements:

  • Excellent command of both spoken and written English and Chinese

  • Strong time management and organisational skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite

  • Great Interpersonal skills, positive and caring. Professional integrity, and excellent ability to work with all stakeholders. Enjoy working in a busy and vibrant school environment.

  • Active learning & Strong critical thinking skills

  • Relevant experience in the library or bookstore would be desirable
