Job Description - Director, Operations Risk Control Self Assessments, Global Wealth & Asset Management

The Director, Operations Risk Management of Global Wealth and Asset Management, will be responsible for assisting the COO Asia with the mandate to design, implement and execute an effective risk control self-assessments program, and with overseeing operational risk mitigation activities, within a division of the Global Wealth and Asset Management business.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in the asset management industry across various asset classes relevant to the division they support, which may include fixed income, equities, real estate, private debt, mortgages, derivatives, with knowledge of various vehicle types such as separate accounts, mutual funds and ETFs. In addition, the candidate will have significant experience in the design, implementation and/or execution of the Operational Risk Management framework for a large financial institution.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support activities to facilitate the effective implementation of the Risk Control Self Assessments framework in a Global Wealth & Asset Management division.  This will include the following:
  • Conduct Risk and Control Self-Assessments: documentation of key risks and controls and development of action plans to remediate control gaps, as needed
  • Contribute to the development of Key Risk Indicators to track identified risks
  • Collect, review and reconcile internal and external risk incidents/ loss events, ensure they are addressed timely, including root cause analysis
  • Support change management; for new products, business initiatives and strategies and assess impact on the division’s risk profile.
  • Develop close partnerships and provide value-added collaboration with business
  • and functional leaders
  • Work coverage is Asia Regional among 7+ countries. Travel will be needed to local offices.
  • Contribute to developing a strong risk culture and work with the business to reinforce accountability and transparency across the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • A seasoned risk professional with a minimum 5 years of risk management, investment management and/or audit experience
  • Strong working knowledge of the wealth and asset management industry and familiar with the current regulatory environment and the risks facing Financial Institutions’
  • Proven expertise and knowledge of ORM concepts and practices (Risk and Control Self Assessments, Risk Indicators, risk events)
  • A strong moral compass and a commitment to high ethical standards
  • Strong collaboration and partnering skills and proven ability to develop effective working relationships with business and functional partners to influence decisions
  • Strong program and project management skills and ability to independently manage multiple, conflicting priorities and deliver a quality result within tight deadlines,
  • A highly motivated and results-oriented individual with an established track record in building effective programs and transforming strategy into action
  • Highly developed business acumen with ability to synthesize complex information from various sources, identifying key points and issues
  • Solid analytical and creative problem-solving skills and the ability to motivate others to implement new solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to articulate complex technical issues
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (Mandarin) preferred
  • Must be willing to travel frequently across 8+ Asia Countries
  • Experience in interacting with senior stakeholders and teams across multiple countries
