Laboratory Supplies Assistant - Health, Safety and Environment Office

We are seeking a high caliber candidate to join the Center of Laboratory Supplies (CLS) of the Health, Safety and Environment Office in providing daily services to the University in chemical and consumable deliveries, with knowledge on Dangerous Goods compliance and warehouse operations. The appointee will also support CLS in managing the University Dangerous Goods (DG) stores and warehouse.

Key responsibilities include:

• Handling of laboratory supplies: receive, store, retrieve and deliver hazardous substances, chemicals, laboratory consumables and chemical wastes. Manual handling operations, including lifting, moving and/or maneuvering of the loads, will be involved.  The appointee is expected to be able to operate DG vehicle;
• Maintenance Coordination: Maintain tools and operation equipment in good conditions, coordinating with other departments to execute maintenance works in DG stores and the warehouse; and
• Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

• A diploma or certificate in chemical science with at least 3 years’ work experience in a tertiary institution or completed secondary education with substantial experience in chemical delivery, chemical waste collections and warehouse operations;
• Possess physical capabilities to perform the manual handling operations in the job. The prospective appointee will be required to pass a pre-employment medical examination to ensure that they can fulfill such requirements;
• Possess valid full driving license (minimum Classes 1 and 2);
• Prior experience of working in laboratory environment is preferred;
• Knowledge in chemical inventory management (highly preferred);
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• The ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively as part of a team; and
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua.

主要職責

• 實驗室物資處理: 接收、儲存、提取及運送危險物質、化學品、實驗室消耗品及化學廢物。工作涉及體力勞動，包括提舉、搬運及移動物品。獲聘者須能操作危險品車輛（DG Vehicle）。
• 維修及運作協調: 確保工具及操作設備維持良好狀態，並與其他部門協調，執行危險品倉庫及一般倉庫的維修工程。
• 其他職責: 執行上司指派的其他相關工作及職責。

入職要求

• 持有化學科學相關文憑或證書，並具備最少三年於大專院校的相關工作經驗；或中學畢業，並具備豐富的化學品運送、化學廢物收集及倉庫運作經驗；

• 具備強健體魄以應付體力勞動工作；獲聘者須通過入職前身體檢查，以確保能履行相關體力勞動工作；
• 持有有效駕駛執照（最少第 1 及第 2 類）；
• 具備實驗室工作經驗者優先；
• 熟悉化學品存貨管理者優先；
• 具備良好的人際溝通及表達能力；
• 能獨立工作、同時處理多項工作，並具備良好的團隊合作精神；
• 具備良好的中英文書寫及口語能力，包括普通話。

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.  A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
