The University Library invites applications for a Library Assistant to join our User and Information Services team at the Au Shue Hung Memorial Library (Main Library). This is a front-line role where you will be the first point of contact for students, researchers, and faculty — answering queries, supporting resource access, and delivering the kind of responsive, knowledgeable counter service that shapes how the entire university community experiences the library every day. Responsibilities: 



  • Provide excellent, empathetic, and professional service at the Main Library’s User Services Counter and handle reference enquiries in person, phone, email and on various chat channels; shift work, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, is required to maintain continuous service; 

  • Coordinate resources sharing services with local and overseas partners; 

  • Update library guides and physical notices;

  • Compile user services statistics for administrative use and strategic planning; and

  • Take part in cross-functional teams as assigned and assist in any other tasks assigned by the supervisor or cluster head to support library operations and projects.


Requirements: 



  • Applicants should possess at least a recognised higher diploma / associate degree,  a recognised university degree or equivalent qualification is preferred; strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with a strong willingness to learn new knowledge and skills, are required;

  • Good written and oral communication skills in both English and Chinese (including Putonghua); hands-on knowledge of MS Office applications; and

  • Qualification or work experience in the library field is preferred but not essential; familiarity with Alma (Integrated library system) is an advantage. 


Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.


The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.
