Manager Department of Materials (set to launch in Fall 2026), School of Engineering

The School of Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is establishing a new Department of Materials (MAT), which is expected to be officially launched in Fall 2026.  The department is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to play a vital administrative role in the department's establishment.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Oversee the administration, personnel and budget matters of the department.
• Provide secretarial support for faculty and staff recruitment and review process.
• Support the development and implementation of the new program curriculum.
• Assist with communication between the department and HKSTP regarding the research and PG office spaces.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff where appropriate.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

Applicants should have a recognized bachelor's degree with at least 7 years of experience in a sizeable organization or tertiary institution within the education sector.  Applicants should possess effective communication, interpersonal, and strong problem-solving skills.  They should be able to liaise with people at different levels of diverse background effectively and work independently. The ideal candidate should be proficient in written and spoken English and Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua), and mature with strong leadership and people skill. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
