It acts as a central hub for AI research, innovation, and thought leadership, connecting organisations with AI specialists, academic institutions, and ecosystem partners to turn AI potential into practical business value.

Work you'll do

 


As the Tech Lead (Manager) you will serve as the senior technical leader within the Deloitte AI Institute Hong Kong, reporting directly to the Head of the Institute. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the Institute’s technical direction and ensuring the team delivers high-quality, enterprise-grade AI assets. Key responsibilities include:


 



  • Partnering with the Head of the AI Institute to define and execute the asset strategy, including the roadmap for new AI products, enhancements to existing solutions, and retirement of legacy tools.

  • Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of AI engineers, data scientists, and developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Establishing and continuously improving the software delivery lifecycle (SDLC) for the Institute, including development standards, code review processes, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and release management.

  • Setting technical standards, coding guidelines, and architectural best practices across all Institute projects to ensure consistency, maintainability, and scalability.

  • Designing and owning career development pathways for technical staff, defining clear competency frameworks and progression milestones for engineers at all levels.

  • Providing hands-on technical expertise and decision-making authority on critical architecture choices, including end-to-end system design, technology selection, service decomposition, and integration patterns for enterprise AI platforms spanning both Hong Kong and Mainland China environments.

  • Maintaining close collaboration and synergy with the Mainland China AI team to ensure alignment on the overall platform roadmap, feature enhancements, performance optimisation, and system stability.

  • Overseeing the performance, reliability, and scalability of the enterprise-wide AI platform that serves all Deloitte staff across Hong Kong, ensuring high availability and a seamless user experience.

  • Driving the adoption of engineering best practices such as infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, monitoring and observability, and secure development practices.

  • Defining and governing the AI system architecture across the Institute’s product portfolio, including model orchestration layers, inference pipelines, multi-agent frameworks, and integration with both on-premise LLM deployments and Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) providers.

  • Owning the end-to-end CI/CD and DevOps strategy for the Institute, encompassing build automation, container orchestration, environment management, release gating, and production deployment processes across multi-cloud and on-premise infrastructure.

  • Navigating the technical and regulatory complexities of operating shared codebases and platform services across Mainland China and Hong Kong, including data residency requirements, cross-border network constraints, and multi-cloud environment management.

We are seeking a technically accomplished and people-oriented engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of hands-on technical work and strategic team leadership.


 



  • Master’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical discipline. A PhD is a plus.

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software engineering or AI/ML engineering, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or team lead capacity.

  • Full working proficiency in English and either Mandarin or Cantonese, proficiency in all three is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop engineering teams, with a track record of building high-performing technical organisations.

  • Deep, hands-on proficiency in Python, with strong working knowledge of Java and/or TypeScript for enterprise application development.

  • Extensive experience with modern AI/ML frameworks and tooling, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, LangGraph, Hugging Face Transformers, and vector databases (e.g. Milvus, Pinecone, Weaviate).

  • Strong understanding of large language model (LLM) application patterns including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and evaluation frameworks.

  • Deep understanding of AI system architecture, including model orchestration frameworks, inference serving (e.g. vLLM, TGI, Triton), and practical experience with on-premise LLM deployments as well as Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) offerings from major cloud and AI providers.

  • Demonstrated experience working with multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments across geographically and regulatorily distinct regions (e.g. Mainland China and Hong Kong), with an understanding of cross-border data compliance, network architecture constraints, and cloud provider differences in the Greater China context.

  • Proven experience architecting and delivering scalable, production-grade AI systems and microservices architectures, with deep expertise in containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), service mesh, API gateway patterns, and multi-cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP also valued).

  • Strong command of CI/CD and DevOps practices, including pipeline design and automation (e.g. GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible), environment provisioning, release orchestration, and production observability (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).

  • Experience with big data engineering technologies such as Apache Kafka and Apache Spark is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with MLOps practices and platforms (e.g. MLflow, Kubeflow, Azure ML) for model lifecycle management is advantageous.

  • Outstanding communication abilities in English and Cantonese; Mandarin proficiency is highly desirable given close collaboration with the Mainland team.

  • A passion for staying at the forefront of AI innovation and a commitment to translating emerging research into enterprise-ready solutions.


 


 


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience working within a professional services, consulting, or large enterprise technology environment.

  • Familiarity with AI governance, responsible AI frameworks, and data privacy regulations in the APAC region.

  • Certifications in cloud architecture (e.g. Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect) or AI/ML specialisations.


Certifications in Agile, Scrum, or Project Management (PMP, SAFe) are a plus
