Job Description - Senior Backend Engineer

Your new company

You will be joining a technology-driven organisation with a strong focus on backend systems, platform reliability, and structured software delivery.

Your new role
1. Non-Production Data & Schema Management

Maintain alignment of database schemas across lower-tier environments (e.g. development, QA, staging) and ensure consistency with live systems.
Perform creation, adjustment, and cleanup of database objects in non-production environments, including managing structural and data change scripts.

2. Source Control & Branch Lifecycle Ownership

Establish and manage work streams in version control by creating and maintaining branches in line with internal standards and delivery processes.
Package builds and coordinate release readiness for assigned work branches in collaboration with delivery and release stakeholders.

3. Deployment & Release Execution

Take ownership of promoting approved changes into production once all validation and sign-offs are completed.
Execute deployment activities, conduct post-deployment checks, document outcomes, and support rollback or contingency planning when required.
Work closely with testing, QA, and release stakeholders to ensure controlled, repeatable, and low-risk deployments.

4. Fast-Paced Delivery & Automation Enablement

Support rapid turnaround business initiatives by building lightweight tools and automation to streamline releases, data handling, and operational tasks.
Continuously improve efficiency by reducing manual effort through pragmatic and maintainable technical solutions.

5. Operational Support & Incident Response

Join scheduled support rotations to respond quickly to service disruptions and resolve backend or system-level issues.
Maintain operational knowledge bases, incident reports, and standard procedures, leveraging learning to improve system stability and processes.

What you'll need to succeed

Strong hands-on experience with Git-based workflows
Solid backend development foundation, particularly in Java, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud
Ability to create scripts or small utilities using general-purpose languages
Clear communicator who documents processes, changes, and operational knowledge effectively.
