Underwriting Manager (Personal Lines & New Product / General Insurance)

Job Summary

• This role leads, drives and is accountable for the underwriting strategy and performance of Personal Lines (excluding Motor and A&H) under the Retail segment in Hong Kong Business Unit, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives

Job Accountabilities

• Manage the portfolio for non-Motor, non-A&H and support Personal Lines new product development


• Lead the development of the underwriting strategy for Personal Lines (non-Motor and non-A&H) and oversees execution to deliver the required portfolio performance


• Identify opportunities and risks, using data and insights to make informed decisions and implementing changes as needed to achieve desired outcomes


• Leverage the knowledge of market trends and distribution dynamics, and design new products and services


• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to deliver the business objectives


• Work with local underwriting teams to ensure consistency and adherence to underwriting standards

Job Qualifications

• Degree holder preferably with 5 years related working experience in insurance industry


• Familiar with a wide range of General Insurance products


• Insurance Professional Qualification is an added advantage


• Knowledge of GI underwriting and operations is highly preferred


• Proficiency in spoken and written English & Chinese (Cantonese a must; Mandarin is highly preferred)


• Customer-oriented with good communication and complaint handling skills a must


• Strong interpersonal, communication and agent relationship management skills


• Good negotiation and presentation skills


• Decision-making ability


• A good team player with ‘Can-do” attitude


• Be able to articulate how to prioritize and work to deadlines


• Desire to learn and be flexible to business change


• Common sense


• Knowledge on PC software
