Job Description - Workshop Technician

Sha Tin College is seeking to appoint a Design Technology Technician to take responsibility in the management for the technical and digital facilities and resources within the Design Faculty. At times this will include being responsible for instructing students and workshop supervision.

Job Specifications / Main Accountabilities 

  • To prepare materials and resources and studios for all classes as necessary, including  ordering of materials and tools. 

  • To check and ensure all equipment is ready and safe to handle and  use, to oversee and enforce overall safety regulations  

  • To manage, schedule and/or carry out the production of student work  on 3D printers, laser cutters and other CAM machinery; instruct and  assist where appropriate, 

  • To consistently keep up to date with developments in CAD CAM and  relevant technological innovations and take on training as appropriate 

  • To share knowledge and understanding of these amongst faculty staff  through formal and informal training 

  • To coordinate with the site team, ICT technical teams, Business  Manager and Head of Department/Faculty when necessary on site  relevant project work 

  • Attend department meetings and planning meetings with other support  staff as necessary 

  • Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as  delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.

  • Any duties may be reasonably requested by the Head of Department

Core Professional / Technical Competencies required 

Abilities

  • ICT Competent - MS Office/Word- Basic formatting

  • Gain some computer literacy / data processing skills

Knowledge

  • Computing Skills: Microsoft Windows Office applications, including Word and Excel

  • Knowledge and direct experience of other general workshop  equipment, machinery and hand tools and their use

Core Soft / Transferable Competencies required

  • English Proficiency (conversation & written) 

  • Excellent initiative, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

  • Excellent general practical skills and problem solving

  • A friendly and confident manner in relation to staff and students are essential

  • Ability to be flexible, prioritise workload, to work independently and use initiative

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Education

  • Have 5 subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and 2 science subjects (e.g. Physics, Chemistry and Biology) at Grade 3 or above in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), or equivalent.

  • Minimum Certificate /Diploma in mechanical, electrical, building services,  marine or manufacturing engineering from BTEC or any Vocational Training  Institutions or Institutions of Vocational Education is preferred

Experience

5 years relevant experience.
