Responsibilities:
â Accounting & Close
â Maintain the general ledger and manage month -end and year -end close processes (accrual basis).
â Reconcile bank, investment, and balance sheet accounts.
â Prepare, analyze, and present GAAP -compliant financial statements.
â Review and approve weekly bank transactions (remittances to clients & accounts payable).
â Own accounts payable workflow and processes.
â In future, oversee grant accounting (budget tracking, expense allocation, reporting to funders).
â Payroll & HR Support
â Prepare and review payroll for the client and its clients, maintain the payroll journal entry and its integration with UKG (HRIS), and ensure all accounts and mappings remain accurate and up to date.
â Support compensation calculations and employee setup/maintenance in UKG.
â Support HR operations by managing payroll -related financial tasks, including benefit deduction reconciliations, manual carrier file uploads, and funding transfers.
â Reporting & Compliance
â Prepare internal and client financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
â Support annual financial audit and IRS Form 990 preparation.
â Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and nonprofit accounting standards.
â Leadership & Projects
â Partner with finance leadership to provide actionable financial insights.
â Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
â Serve as backup for key finance/HR functions as needed (e.g., AP/AR, payroll).
â Document and improve accounting processes to support current initiatives (cash to accrual based accounting, accounts payable workflow overhaul, nonprofit transition, etc) and future growth.
Requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience:
â Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance with 5+ years of relevant experience or
â Strong knowledge of US GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB).
â Proficiency in Quickbooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
â Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
â Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast -paced environment.
Preferred:
â Experience with federal grant compliance and donor reporting.
â Familiarity with donor database systems and integrations.
â Knowledge of internal control frameworks and risk management best practices.
