We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Manager - Machine Shop to join our Fabrication Business Unit at JCB India Limited in Jaipur. This pivotal role demands strong leadership and extensive technical expertise to manage the daily operations of the machine shop effectively while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
As Assistant Manager, you will oversee production planning, inventory management, manpower allocation, and tooling management to ensure that daily production targets are met with quality, safety, and efficiency. You will be responsible for independently managing a shift in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, requiring flexibility to work across three shifts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the machine shop production activities, overseeing workflow to meet the established production schedules aligned with SQDCM (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale) parameters.
- Planning and executing inventory control and tooling management to minimise downtime and optimise output.
- Utilising in-depth knowledge of CNC programming and hands-on experience with FANUC and Siemens control systems to support and develop new parts on CNC machines.
- Guiding, coaching and mentoring shop floor personnel to foster a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Implementing and championing Lean manufacturing principles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives to enhance productivity and workplace safety.
- Driving process improvements by maintaining and improving production efficiency, cycle times, capacity, and process capabilities.
- Leading workforce development strategies including multiskilling and flexible deployment to meet operational demands effectively.
- Overseeing layout modifications and changes to optimise machine shop productivity and workflow efficiency.
- Managing the development and maintenance of tools, tackles, and trolleys essential for fabrication parts production.
- Supporting the Integrated Management System (IMS) process and ensuring compliance and implementation across the machine shop operations.
Essential skills and experience:
- Proven experience in machine shop production management within the manufacturing or fabrication industry, with experience in similar roles considered an advantage.
- Strong expertise in CNC programming, especially with FANUC and Siemens control systems.
- Experience handling shift operations independently and adapting to a 3-shift working system.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing teams with a focus on training, mentoring, and driving performance improvements.
- Solid understanding of Lean manufacturing, TPM, and EHS standards in a production environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to guide teams on effective techniques.
- Good organisational skills to handle production planning, inventory, and manpower management efficiently.
- Strong communication skills for effective coordination with cross-functional teams and reporting to senior management.
