Hybrid WorkingJob Description Summary
Data Science Analyst – Grade DJob Description
About the Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Data Science Analyst, with an appreciation of the commercial aspects of a business to provide services to IP&I’s Home Insurance Pricing team, working alongside the onshore General Insurance (GI) Platform.
IP&I’s Home Insurance Pricing team’s key purpose is to implement a sustainable Home Insurance pricing strategy through collaborative relationships, balancing customer and business needs, whilst providing insight through data, and understanding how IP&I’s Home Insurance offering is delivering for the General Insurance business.
There’s opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of pricing activities and to provide analytical expertise to help maintain and grow IP&I’s position as a leading General Insurance home provider. You must be creative, possessing a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, open to testing innovative ways of working and good at seeing what the numbers tell you. Building relationships and collaborating with others are particularly important to the role.
You’ll be at the forefront of supporting the GI Home Insurance Pricing team in delivering market-leading pricing strategies, embedding automation and data science into the end-to-end pricing process. Whether that’s helping us understand expected claims costs or customer purchasing behaviour better than ever before, translating this into a cutting-edge pricing structure – there’s a lot to learn about our business! You’ll become a Home Insurance SME, with a deep knowledge of value drivers, playing a key role in driving process efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate and propose pricing strategies, fully exploiting the latest modelling techniques
Work with the team to deliver enhanced analytics to improve modelling of customer purchasing behaviour, expected claim costs and pricing outcomes
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively, adapting messaging for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Translate complex data into engaging visualisations and interactive dashboards, using tools such as Power BI or Power Apps to inform pricing decisions and appetites, and to drive insight for GI Home Insurance.
Support the testing of pricing changes and the delivery of large-scale projects that impact Home Insurance as a whole
Support the continuous improvement of our pricing processes and control framework, working across teams to deliver the most efficient and value-driving approaches to our processes.
Embed GCP use within the team, supporting our Data Analysts to upskill in the use of this technology
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, in the office. Although the role will generally work to IST, the nature of the services provided to IP&I means that the successful candidate may be required to work outside of IST on occasion.
What We’re Looking For
Ability to use data science techniques to analyse complex datasets, build predictive models, leverage LLMs, and extract actionable insights to support pricing decision-making
Familiarity with statistical methods, preferably including generalised linear modelling, and machine learning techniques, and comfortable operating in a highly numerate environment
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation, automation, scripting and developing scalable and maintainable solutions
Experience in building predictive models in VertexAI, and utilising Google’s tools such as Gemini to leverage better understanding of data
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and distil it into clear, actionable insights that support decision-making across the business
Self-motivated with a naturally inquisitive mindset, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement, spotting issues early, and suggesting innovative solutions.
Confident in communicating technical concepts to a range of audiences, enjoying working with diverse stakeholders
Desirable Attributes
A background in Financial Services and/or Insurance, is highly advantageous, but not essential.
Experience in designing and deploying low-code applications using Power Apps to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency
Demonstrable experience in transforming legacy processes through automation, modern tooling, or data-driven approaches to improve efficiency and insight
Familiarity with agile delivery environments, including working within cross-functional teams to deliver iterative improvements and to respond to evolving business needs
