This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a General Counsel in India.
This is a high-impact leadership role for a senior legal professional who will build and own the internal legal function during a critical growth phase. You will design scalable legal infrastructure, transitioning from an outsourced model to a fully embedded, high-performance in-house legal team. The role spans US and India jurisdictions, with a strong focus on SaaS commercial law, healthcare data compliance, and contract governance. You will act as a strategic advisor to revenue, finance, and compliance leaders while enabling fast and secure business growth. This position requires a hands-on operator comfortable in a fast-paced, Series B-style environment. You will also lead the implementation of legal systems, automation tools, and contract lifecycle platforms. The role demands close alignment with US business hours to support global stakeholders effectively.
Accountabilities
- Build and lead the internal legal function by transitioning legal operations from external vendors to in-house systems, including contract repositories, workflows, and governance structures.
- Design and implement automation-first legal processes, including Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) systems to improve scalability and reduce manual legal workloads.
- Own US commercial legal operations, including drafting and negotiating MSAs, SOWs, SaaS agreements, and data-related contracts supporting revenue growth.
- Partner with sales and business teams to support enterprise deals, ensuring legal processes enable rather than slow down commercial execution.
- Manage external counsel and legal vendors across jurisdictions, ensuring cost efficiency, alignment, and high-quality legal support.
- Develop and enforce global compliance frameworks covering US healthcare regulations, Indian corporate law, privacy, and data governance standards.
- Establish risk management, audit readiness, and legal controls to support long-term scaling, fundraising, and potential exit scenarios.
Requirements
- 8–12+ years of legal experience with a law degree (LLB/LLM), ideally including experience in high-growth technology or SaaS environments.
- Strong expertise in US commercial law, including SaaS contracts, usage-based pricing models, and enterprise deal structures.
- Proven ability to build or transform an in-house legal function from an outsourced model in a scaling organization.
- Experience working across US and India legal frameworks, ideally within a US-headquartered global organization.
- Strong understanding of data privacy, compliance, and regulatory frameworks, particularly in healthcare or data-driven industries.
- Experience in startup environments (Series B–C preferred), with the ability to operate in ambiguity and high-growth conditions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills with a business-oriented mindset.
- Ability and willingness to work aligned with US business hours to support global teams.
