Lead Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a Lead Engineer who will play a key role in designing, building, and scaling Fold Health’s healthcare platform. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technologist with strong leadership skills, capable of guiding engineering teams, setting best practices, and driving the delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership
   • Lead design and architecture discussions for scalable, secure, and resilient systems.
     
   • Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and technical guidelines.
     
   • Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
     
2. Product Development
   • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams to build and deliver end-to-end features.
     
   • Drive the development of backend microservices, APIs, and frontend applications.
     
   • Ensure HIPAA and other healthcare compliance in all technology solutions.
     
3. Innovation & Strategy
   • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies (AI/ML, healthcare data standards, cloud-native).
     
   • Contribute to roadmap planning and provide input on technical feasibility and effort estimation.
     
   • Lead proof-of-concept (POC) initiatives for new product features and integrations.
     
4. Quality & Performance
   • Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of applications across web and mobile platforms.
     
   • Oversee CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code review processes.
     
   • Monitor and optimize application and infrastructure performance.
     

Requirements

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  
• 10–15 years of hands-on engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a lead/architect role.
  
• Strong expertise in Node.js (NestJS), ReactJS, React Native, Python (preferred), and TypeScript.
  
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  
• Solid knowledge of PostgreSQL, data pipelines, and healthcare data (EHR, claims, ADT, FHIR standards).
  
• Familiarity with AI/ML integration and building data-driven applications.
  
• Experience with HIPAA, security best practices, and compliance in healthcare systems.
  
• Strong problem-solving, system design, and communication skills.
  
• Proven track record of mentoring teams and delivering complex products in a startup or fast-paced environment.
  

Good to Have

• Experience with healthcare integrations (Elation, Athena, eCW, HIE, claims pipelines).
  
• Familiarity with Twilio – Programable SMS and Voice calls, Mailgun - emails, wearable data APIs.
  
• Exposure to BI/reporting tools (PowerBI, BigQuery).
  
• Prior experience in Value-Based Care (VBC) programs or healthcare startups.
