Maintenance Engineer

Overview

The Maintenance Engineer is a key member of our team at the leather manufacturing plant in Erode. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and utilities specific to leather processing. The candidate will focus on minimizing downtime, ensuring equipment reliability, and supporting production efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance and Repair:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in leather manufacturing equipment.
     
   
   
   • Perform routine preventive maintenance to minimize unplanned breakdowns.
     
   
   
   • Ensure the maintenance of utility systems, including boilers, compressors, and effluent treatment plants (ETP).
     
   
   



2. Equipment Optimization:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Work closely with the production team to improve equipment efficiency and reliability.
     
   
   
   • Monitor critical equipment such as tanning drums, finishing machines, and cutting tools to ensure optimal performance.
     
   
   
   • Identify opportunities for upgrading or modernizing equipment and lead the implementation process.
     
   
   



3. Health & Safety Compliance:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure machinery meets operational safety standards.
     
   
   
   • Identify and mitigate potential hazards within the factory environment.
     
   
   
   • Promote a culture of safety by training staff on equipment handling and safety practices.
     
   
   



4. Inspection and Documentation:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Maintain records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and scheduled servicing.
     
   
   
   • Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track and schedule maintenance tasks.
     
   
   
   • Prepare reports on equipment performance and breakdown trends for management review.
     
   
   



5. Utilities Management:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Oversee the functioning of power supply systems, water treatment plants, and effluent discharge systems to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
     
   
   
   • Conduct regular checks and maintenance of air handling and ventilation systems.
     
   
   



6. Team Collaboration and Training:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Collaborate with the production and quality assurance teams to address equipment-related issues affecting product quality.
     
   
   
   • Train operators and junior technicians on machinery operation and basic maintenance procedures.
     
   
   

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

1. Educational Requirements:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or a related field.
     
   
   
   • Specialized certifications related to maintenance or utility systems (e.g., boiler operation certification) are preferred.
     
   
   



2. Experience:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance role, preferably in a leather or textile factory.
     
   
   
   • Hands-on experience with leather processing equipment and utility systems is an advantage.
     
   
   



3. Technical Skills:
   

   
   
   
   
   • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment.
     
   
   
   • Knowledge of effluent treatment processes and environmental compliance regulations.
     
   
   
   • Familiarity with CMMS software and other maintenance tracking tools.
