WETS Deposition group at Lam India Global Hardware Technology (LIGHT) is hiring a Mechanical Staff Engineer for its product development engineering and product ownership team.

The Mechanical Engineer 6 (Senior Staff Engineer) is a recognized technical leader responsible for defining product architectures, technology strategies, and engineering direction for critical semiconductor capital equipment platforms. This role drives innovation across multiple products and programs, influences long-term technology roadmaps, and provides technical leadership for business-critical initiatives across global engineering organizations.

The Senior Staff Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in fluidics, structural systems, and electro-mechanical design, guiding complex product development from concept through lifecycle management. Working closely with Product Management, Systems Engineering, and Global Product Teams, this role translates business and technology needs into differentiated product capabilities and scalable engineering solutions.

Success in this role requires deep technical expertise, strong systems thinking, and the ability to influence technical direction across organizational boundaries. The individual is expected to mentor senior engineers, develop organizational capability, and drive adoption of engineering best practices to strengthen Lam's technology leadership.

What you’ll do

• Define and drive the technical strategy, architecture, development, and lifecycle management of complex fluidic, structural, and electro-mechanical systems across multiple products and technology platforms.


• Serve as the technical authority for critical technology domains, guiding strategic product decisions, technology roadmaps, and advanced development initiatives.

• Translate product and system requirements into innovative subsystem architectures, technical specifications, detailed designs, and validation strategies.


• Lead the design and integration of fluid delivery systems, precision mechanisms, structural assemblies, and electro-mechanical components across multidisciplinary platforms.


• Drive technical decisions through engineering analysis, simulation, trade studies, risk assessments, and data-driven problem solving.


• Define and execute product verification, qualification, and reliability strategies to ensure compliance with customer, business, and regulatory requirements.


• Lead cross-functional collaboration with Systems, Process, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Global Product teams to successfully deliver complex products and programs.


• Drive resolution of complex technical challenges across development, manufacturing, and field environments using structured root-cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.


• Establish and influence engineering standards, platform strategies, design methodologies, and best practices to drive technical excellence and consistency across product lines.


• Mentor and develop engineers, strengthen technical capability, and provide leadership across multiple programs and global engineering teams.

Who we’re looking for

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.E./B.Tech. or M.E./MTech. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.


• 15+ years of experience in complex product development, with demonstrated leadership of large-scale engineering programs and product architecture.


• Recognized expert in fluidics, structural systems, and electro-mechanical system architecture, with demonstrated ability to drive organization-wide technical direction.


• Deep expertise in system architecture, technology development, platform engineering, reliability engineering, and lifecycle optimization


• Advanced knowledge of fluid delivery systems, thermal management, precision mechanisms, structural analysis, controls integration, and system-level design tradeoffs


• Demonstrated ability to define long-term technology roadmaps and align engineering investments with business objectives


• Exceptional capability to influence senior technical leaders, executives, and cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority


• Proven success leading multiple complex programs and driving transformational technical initiatives across global organizations


• Strong track record of innovation, intellectual property development, advanced problem solving, and technical thought leadership


• Ability to develop technical talent, mentor future technical leaders, and institutionalize engineering excellence across the organization

Preferred qualifications

• Semiconductor industry experience is not required, but a plus

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
