This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Engineer, Industrial Automation based in India.
This role is a senior technical leadership position at the forefront of industrial automation and OT systems engineering. You will define and drive the architecture of large-scale SCADA and PLC-based solutions that power critical industrial operations across complex environments. The position blends deep hands-on engineering with strategic design authority, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, and highly available. You will work across multi-vendor automation ecosystems, integrating PLCs, SCADA platforms, and industrial networks into cohesive architectures. In this role, you will also engage directly with customers and stakeholders, translating business requirements into robust technical solutions. You will play a key role in shaping engineering standards, mentoring teams, and ensuring delivery excellence across global automation projects.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of industrial automation solutions using Siemens WinCC OA, SCADA systems, and PLC platforms.
- Oversee end-to-end project delivery including requirements analysis, system design, integration, testing, commissioning, and validation.
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available OT architectures aligned with industry standards and best practices.
- Integrate multi-vendor PLC systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider) with industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP.
- Develop, review, and optimize automation applications, scripts, and system integration components using Python, C++, or similar technologies.
- Conduct technical design reviews ensuring compliance with OT cybersecurity standards (ISA/IEC 62443) and industrial frameworks (ISA-88, ISA-95).
- Lead customer workshops, technical discussions, and solution presentations to align expectations and drive successful delivery outcomes.
- Mentor engineering teams, providing technical leadership, guidance, and support across complex automation initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues across SCADA, PLC, and OT infrastructure environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 11+ years of experience in industrial automation, SCADA systems, and OT/ICS engineering environments.
- Strong expertise in Siemens WinCC OA, SCADA platforms, and industrial automation system design.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming and integration across Siemens S7/TIA, Rockwell, and Schneider systems.
- Deep knowledge of industrial communication protocols including OPC UA, Modbus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP.
- Strong programming/scripting experience in Python, C++, or equivalent languages for automation and integration.
- Solid understanding of OT networking, redundancy, high-availability architectures, and industrial cybersecurity frameworks.
- Familiarity with ISA-88, ISA-95, and IEC 62443 standards in industrial environments.
- Proven experience in FAT, SAT, commissioning, validation, and end-to-end automation project delivery.
- Strong stakeholder management, customer-facing communication, and technical leadership capabilities.
- Domain exposure in industries such as water & wastewater, chemicals, process industries, or food & beverage is preferred.
