Ensono is conducting a search to fill a newly created position on our Mainframe Product Engineering team. Joining our team as a senior software engineer you will be tasked with extending the capabilities and value of our AI and automation enriched platform that refactors and optimizes legacy mainframe code and data to be cloud-enabled.

A qualified candidate will be a full stack senior software developer with experience in Mainframe Migration projects in which mainframe legacy code and data is converted to Java or .Net and relational database architectures using DB2, Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle, etc. This smart, passionate, and curious problem solver will also require interfacing with the Z platform with working knowledge of COBOL, compilers, VSAM, IMS, IDMS, ADABAS. The challenges are plentiful and the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the client experience is measurable.

Job Description

Principle Responsibilities

• Analyzes, designs, develops, and codes programs in one or more programming languages, for Desktop and Web Applications
• Supports applications with an understanding of system integration, test planning, scripting, and troubleshooting. 
• Gathers business, and technical requirements and filtering them down into a single product backlog
• Establishes, participates, and maintains relationships with business units and subject matter experts to remain apprised of direction, project status, risks, and functional/integration issues
• Works directly with Product Management and stakeholders to understand requirements and provide end-to-end data solutions
• Defines technical specifications and develop programs, modifies existing programs, prepares test data, and prepares functional specifications
• Demonstrates ability to navigate the IBM Z platform in the z/OS environment as well as Unix/Linux Operating Systems 
• Facilitates backlog refinement sessions
• Ensures solutions meet current customer need
• Creates mockups and prototypes to support project direction
• Develops data models and infrastructure for a wide variety of market and alternative datasets
• Designs and builds services and plugins to enhance our Platform
• Maintains alerting systems to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
• Authors tests to validate data quality and the stability of the platform
• Investigates and defuses time-sensitive data incidents
• Communicates with domain owners to onboard data domains and troubleshoot technical issues
• Tracks metrics for measurement of business outcomes gained from implemented solutions

Skills & Behaviors that are reliable indications that you can contribute

• Experience in mainframe migrations – code and data conversions
• Experience in PROLOG is a big plus
• Hands on experience and knowledge of the IBM Z platform architecture
• Experience with programming languages Java, C#, Python, JavaScript
• Hands on experience with SDK extension development is a plus
• Strong experience in database design fundamentals
• Demonstrated understanding of the different data structures of the IBM Z platform, such as VSAM, IMS, IDMS, etc
• Exposure to agile ways of working and code deployment and familiar with Jira, Git/SVN, Jenkins, CI/CD, containerization
• Self-motivated and driven to define and complete deliverables
• Excellent analytic, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Fearless in researching, deploying, and leveraging technologies that achieve the best results
• Strong verbal and written communications skills

Preferred Education or Equivalent Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or equivalent work-related experience
• Certifications in related technology fields is a plus
