QA Test Engineer – Manual and Automation

Role Overview

We are looking for a QA Test Engineer with hands-on experience in manual testing, test automation, API testing, and SQL-based data validation.

The ideal candidate should be capable of understanding business requirements, preparing comprehensive test cases, executing functional and regression tests, reporting defects, and developing basic automation scripts for web applications.

Key Responsibilities

Manual Testing

• Analyse business requirements, user stories, and functional specifications.
  
• Prepare test scenarios, test cases, test data, and traceability documents.
  
• Perform functional, UI, integration, system, smoke, and regression testing.
  
• Identify, document, and report defects with clear evidence and reproduction steps.
  
• Track defects through investigation, resolution, retesting, and closure.
  
• Participate in requirement discussions and identify potential gaps or ambiguities.
  
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and product teams to improve test coverage and product quality.
  

Automation Testing

• Develop and execute automation scripts using Selenium or a similar web automation tool.
  
• Work with automation frameworks such as TestNG, JUnit, NUnit, or PyTest.
  
• Maintain and enhance existing automation test suites.
  
• Execute automated smoke and regression test cycles.
  
• Analyse automation results and report failures accurately.
  
• Work with developers and senior QA team members to identify suitable automation opportunities.
  
• Follow reusable and maintainable automation scripting practices.
  

API and Database Testing

• Test APIs using Postman, Swagger, or similar tools.
  
• Validate API requests, responses, status codes, headers, and error handling.
  
• Understand and validate JSON and XML payloads.
  
• Write intermediate-level SQL queries for backend data validation.
  
• Perform data consistency checks between the application UI, APIs, and database.
  
• Validate workflows involving multiple tables, joins, aggregations, and subqueries.
  

Test Documentation and Reporting

• Prepare and maintain:
  • Test plans
    
  • Test scenarios and test cases
    
  • Test execution reports
    
  • Defect reports
    
  • Regression test suites
    
• Maintain accurate evidence and documentation for completed testing.
  
• Provide regular updates on testing progress, defects, risks, and release readiness.
  

Tools and Processes

• Use Azure DevOps or similar tools for test management and defect tracking.
  
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  
• Work within established SDLC, STLC, and defect-management processes.
  
• Follow organisational QA standards and testing best practices.
  
• Support testing activities as part of CI/CD release workflows.
  

Requirements

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of manual testing concepts, STLC, SDLC, and the defect lifecycle.
  
• Hands-on experience in functional, integration, system, and regression testing.
  
• Basic to intermediate automation scripting experience.
  
• Practical experience with Selenium or a similar automation tool.
  
• Good SQL knowledge, including joins, aggregations, and subqueries.
  
• Experience with API testing using Postman or Swagger.
  
• Understanding of JSON and XML formats.
  
• Experience using Azure DevOps or a comparable test and defect-management tool.
  
• Ability to prepare clear test cases, defect reports, and execution reports.
  

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to applications developed using,.NET, React, or similar modern technologies.
  
• Experience using Git or another version-control system.
  
• Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.
