Job Responsibilities:

1. Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Create tailored learning plans for students with disabilities, addressing their specific educational needs and goals.
   

2. Instruction: Deliver specialized teaching to students with diverse needs, using various strategies and materials designed to meet each student’s learning style and abilities.
   

3. Adapt Curriculum: Modify general education curriculum to make it accessible and engaging for students with different disabilities or challenges.
   

4. Behavioral Support: Work with students on social skills, emotional regulation, and behavioral challenges, often using positive reinforcement techniques and individualized interventions.
   

5. Assessment and Evaluation: Regularly assess student progress, track development, and adjust strategies accordingly. This includes formal assessments, teacher observations, and parent feedback.
   

6. Collaboration: Work closely with other teachers, school administrators, counselors, and parents to ensure a holistic approach to the student's education. This includes attending IEP meetings and collaborating on behavior and learning strategies.
   

7. Documentation: Keep detailed records of student progress, IEP goals, and behavioral interventions. Ensure compliance with legal and educational regulations.
   

8. Support and Guidance: Provide emotional, social, and academic support to students, helping them develop self -confidence and independence.
   

9. Professional Development: Continue learning about new teaching methods, tools, and technologies to serve students with disabilities better.
   

Qualifications:

• Education: A bachelor’s degree in special education (or related field) is typically required. A master's degree is often preferred.
  
• Certification: Teachers must hold state certification in special education, and this may include specific endorsements depending on the age group and types of disabilities served.
  
• Skills: Strong communication skills, patience, creativity in developing teaching materials, the ability to work with a team, and knowledge of various disabilities and special education laws.
  
• Experience: Prior 2 to 4 years experience working with children with special needs, either through internships, volunteering, or teaching, is often required.
