Description

WSP India is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join its Bridges team in Bengaluru. The role involves leading and delivering multidisciplinary bridge design projects including highway and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, drainage structures, and special structures.

You will work as part of the Nordics GCC Bridge team, taking a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for technical delivery, quality, and project coordination. The position requires early involvement in design development and the ability to plan and deliver work in accordance with Nordic standards (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway). Training and guidance will be provided as required. The role reports to a Principal Engineer or Associate.



Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Technical Design

  • Lead feasibility studies, analysis, and design of bridges and associated civil structures.
  • Deliver preliminary and detailed designs for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and drainage structures.
  • Perform bridge assessments, load ratings, rehabilitation, and strengthening designs.
  • Prepare technical calculations, drawings, reports, cost estimates, and quantity take-offs.
  • Review shop drawings and support tender documentation and contract administration.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and manage design deliverables across project stages.
  • Ensure compliance with employer requirements, design codes, and Nordic engineering standards.

Quality, Governance & Risk

  • Ensure full compliance with document control and QA/QC procedures.
  • Review and sign off calculations, drawings, and technical deliverables.
  • Identify technical, commercial, and resourcing risks and escalate as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, processes, and protocols.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor engineers and BIM technicians.
  • Promote technical excellence and raise overall team capability.
  • Coordinate closely with WSP India and Nordics teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Local GCC Head of Structures.
  • Manage delegated tasks, monitor workloads, and flag resourcing needs.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and cross-discipline coordination.

Administrative

  • Accurately complete timesheets and comply with internal reporting requirements.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Proven experience in bridge design and delivery with a strong technical track record.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as CSI Bridge, MIDAS Civil, LUSAS, SAP2000, Sofistik.
  • Experience with international design codes (Eurocodes, BS, AASHTO).
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead teams in a fast-paced delivery environment.
  • Fluent in English with strong technical writing skills.
  • Experience with Nordic/Swedish bridge projects is preferred.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Membership of an accredited professional engineering body.
  • UK Chartered Engineer status or near Chartered is desirable.
  • 8–15 years of relevant bridge engineering experience.

  • Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification (“BGV”) check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India.
